2014 GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft (Live at 6pm MST)

2013 GABF Fantasy Brewery Live Draft
Live Blog 2014 GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft

It’s hard to believe, but we’re finally arrived at year two of the GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft! True to the nature of PorchDrinking, last year we set out to bring a unique element to the Great American Beer Festival while not taking beer too seriously. So we invited a healthy melange of national and local craft beer writers to participate in a Fantasy Brewery Draft. Each year we draft breweries based on how we feel they’ll finish during GABF judging and earn points based on those finishes.

Last year, we happened to out luck the field by taking first, so this year’s draft order is based on how teams finished with our new additions starting first then onto the last place finishers and PorchDrinking will be drafting last.

Join us for the actual draft TONIGHT at 6 p.m. Mountain 8 p.m. Eastern and follow the action!

The draft will run like any other fantasy sports snake-style draft would with the last pick of the first round receiving the first pick of the second round.
Our participants will score points based on how their breweries medal during the actual competition. Please note, that beers in the Great American Beer Festival are judged based on their style guidelines. So while you may be a huge fan of a crazy creative beer, it may not necessarily win due to it’s style category guidelines.  Here’s how participants will score points.
Point breakdown:
1 point for Bronze
3 points for Silver
5 points for Gold
20 points for Brewery and Brewmaster of the Year for a Brewing Company (regardless of size)
15 points for Brewery and Brewmaster of the Year for a Brew Pub (regardless of size)
Judging will take place on Saturday morning of the Great American Beer Festival and we’ll have the final results on how our participants finished that following week.
