Prep for DC Beer Week

Prep for DC Beer Week
Stacey Goers

It keeps growing and growing and growing. The 2015 DC Beer Week looks to be bigger and better organized than ever. The event first started in 2008 (here’s our 2013 coverage) and is run by a slew of who’s who in the DC beer world.

It starts Aug. 9 and runs through Aug. 16. Events are spread throughout the city and the team wisely compiled a list of “hot spots,” bars and breweries that will offer multiple events throughout the week, like ChurchKey, RFD and Bluejacket.

DC Beer Week Co-Chairman Bill DeBaun (co-editor of dcbeer.com) expects nearly 50 breweries to be participating in the week in some shape or form (he thinks it could even move up to 75 as the week arrives!).

An annual tradition of the week is the brewing of a Solidarity Beer: In early July, brewers from the D.C. area gathered at Hellbender Brewing Company to work on Red, White and Gluten, a wheat-heavy, Belgian-style saison with lemon. The first keg of the Solidarity Beer will be tapped at the kick-off event, the Brewers on the Block at Suburbia (at Union Market in DC’s Northeast). You can bet that PorchDrinking will there.

What else to look out for: DC Brau’s 4th Annual Crabfest, RFD’s Coast-to-Coast Tab Takeover (proceeds benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital) and a beer scavenger hunt across Dupont Circle.

More events and details are popping up each week. Follow the week on FacebookTwitter or keep on checking the website. And follow PorchDrinking’s DC Team on Twitter for any and all things!
