Preview | 2019 Surly Darkness Day and Your Chance to Win Tickets

Rewind the cold beer time machine just five years and you’ll notice only a handful of iconic beer events that have withstood the test of time. As beer festivals continue to evolve and get bigger, the old guard of classic beer festivals much evolve and change with the times. Luckily for fans of the Midwestern staple Surly Brewing, their Darkness Day continues to grow and remain an elite level beer drinking experience.

Surly Brewing’s Darkness Day has become one of those iconic beer events that has risen to become a bucket list item for craft beer fanatics far and wide. What began 11 years ago as a celebration of one of Surly’s most coveted yearly beer releases, has grown into a much bigger production. So much so, that the Minneapolis-based brewery decided to move the event from their Brooklyn Center Brewery to Somerset Amphitheater, 30 miles away in Somerset, WI.

Additionally, Wisconsin law allows the event to include some of Surly’s favorite breweries from across the country to participate in an invitational style beer festival as part of the weekend. The two-day festival will kick off with the Dawn of Darkness Beer Festival on Friday, September 27 from 23 guest breweries located across the country including the likes of:

Tickets are currently available for 2019 Darkness Day festivities, as well as for the 2019 Darkness and 2019 Darkness Variant Packages.

With camping on-site occurring throughout the weekend, Friday’s festivities will also include a giant bonfire and the opportunity to purchase rare and vintage bottles on-site.

Saturday continues with the full Darkness Day Celebration where attendees will be able to sample from vintages and rarities from Surly, while also enjoying concerts from God Came from Space, The Blind Shake, Black Lips, and Eyehategod,

Last year, Surly introduced the release of three different Darkness barrel-aged Stout variants for the first time. And this year, three new variants will join the lineup including:

Double Stuffed Darkness – Rum Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout with Vanilla Bean and Cacao

Molé Darkness – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout with Vanilla Beans, Chocolate, Cinnamon and Chilies

Darkness Old Fashioned – Rye Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout with Moroccan Sweet Orange Peel

Tickets are currently available for 2019 Darkness Day festivities, as well as for the 2019 Darkness and 2019 Darkness Variant Packages.

This year’s variant bottles will be available will only be available by purchasing a weekend variant ticket package. The Darkness Days Weekend Package which is available for $200 includes:

  • 3 Bottles of 2019 Darkness with the option to purchase more.
  • 3 Bottles of 2019 Darkness Variants (one bottle each)
  • Admission to Friday’s Dawn of Darkness Beer Festival (all you can sample-style beer fest)
  • Admission to Saturday’s Darkness Day which features live music, vintage, newly release, rare Surly beers, food trucks and more.
  • Reserved camping and parking from 9/27-9/29

Other packages include:

  • A Weekend Pass with No Bottles available for $55
  • A Friday Pass with no bottles available for $45
  • A Saturday Pass with no bottles available for $35
