Given the continued craziness of COVID-19 and its impacts on the craft beer industry, how are breweries’ sustainability goals progressing? Did breweries have to abandon these goals in 2021 or were they able to meet their objectives? To answer these questions, I recently interviewed two sustainability leaders in the craft brewing industry, Brewery Vivant and New Belgium Brewing.

Over 65 Colorado Breweries Creating Benefit Beer Colorado Strong IPA

During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) and the Left Hand Brewing Foundation joined forces to raise funds for the Colorado craft brewing industry by creating a benefit beer, Colorado Strong. For 2021, Colorado Strong returns as an India Pale Ale where proceeds will go towards the Colorado chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as well as the CBG in support of membership fees and other CBG programs.

Epic Brewing | 2021 Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout Variants Preview

For the previous 10 years, Epic Brewing of Utah and Colorado produces Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout, a stout aged in whiskey barrels with added cacao nibs and coffee. It is a delightful beer, the ingredient flavors are recognizable, and it is high in ABV at 11.7%. Since 2016, Epic Brewing each year produces variants with this year’s batch showing fulfilling and fun achievements.

To start, the just-released 2021 line-up features six variants: Naked Baptist, In The Rye, Black Forest Cake, Double Barrel, Double Jam and Chocolate Mint. All are available across retail partners across Colorado starting September 30 and customers are able to order online for pick up from September 30 – October 11.

New Belgium Brewing Interview | The Carbon Neutral Toolkit

One year after making Fat Tire the first certified carbon neutral beer in the United States, New Belgium Brewing is releasing a Carbon Neutral Toolkit, available on their website, DrinkSustainably.com. Denver’s Mockery Brewing & Butcher’s Bistro Raise $1,320 for Charity

Mile High City brewery Mockery Brewing and Butcher’s Bistro collaborated during the month of March to support a favorite charity, Veterans to Farmers.

Throughout the month, for every pint of Mockery’s “Rock the F*ck on Forever” IPA sold at Butcher’s Bistro, $1 went to the nonprofit. In addition, at the end of the month Butcher’s Bistro hosted a silent auction and celebration for Veterans to Farmers great work.

Denver restaurant Butcher’s Bistro and RiNo brewery Mockery Brewing are partnering in a fundraiser for the charity Veterans to Farmers for nearly all of March. Now through March 29, for every pint of Mockery’s “Rock the F*ck on Forever” IPA sold at Butcher’s Bistro, the charity will receive $1.

Additionally, on the final day Butcher’s Bistro will host a silent auction and a celebration party of the great work of Veterans to Farmers. The fundraiser finale starts at 5:30 p.m. on March 29.

Some people might dread a visit to the in-laws over the holidays, but I did not. This could have been attributed to having fun relatives, playing tons of games and reminiscing about the year. Or it could be that one of the great beers from a fantastic brewery is just a few blocks away from the in-laws house. Let’s say it is a mixture of all that because Pliny the Elder is great beer to share with the family and celebrate the holidays.
