We made it through another week, ya’ll! As we edge closer to fall and all it’s glory — spiced everything, pumpkins, dark beers, cooler weather, etc. — we should take time to reflect on the days that have passed already. It was only about six months ago that our country was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses closing and people being laid off. Now, many businesses are opening for outdoor seating, craft beer is seeing an uptick in brews being delivered to your door (which I hope never goes away!) and we’re seeing lower positive test rates. Even with some good news sprinkled into the news nowadays, like getting closer to a vaccine, we here in California are getting updates on nearly 400 fires throughout our state, evacuation notices, and unhealthy air quality to boot. Don’t worry, this article is not cake. Apparently that is something we have to think about now; at least it’s nonsense and not a new “murder hornet” topic. Where I live we re-shut down a lot of businesses and today we now have some outdoor seating available again. What a week it’s been! July usually is a month when we look forward to family gatherings, watching fireworks with friends and trips to mark the end of summer. Sadly, we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and have to put these plans on hold to ensure the spread of COVID-19 lessens. Some states have opened outdoor seating for breweries and some counties are cracking down on gatherings on beaches. Even Costco, at least where I live, isn’t making party platters since groups of 10 or more are discouraged. Set up a camping chair in your backyard, crack a cold one, and check out how our team is coping with another week in pandemic-land. This is What We’re Drinking.

The arrival of graduation car parades around town serves as a reminder that we’ve hit summertime. As new grads find exciting ways to celebrate their next chapter in life in the midst of a pandemic, some counties are starting to re-open with outdoor seating. Breweries that have been permitted to open outdoor seating and on-site consumption are now a beacon for the craft beer community.

HenHouse Brewing Company, based in Santa Rosa, California, isn’t open for outdoor seating quite yet, but that’s not stopping them from having killer curbside pick-up options and putting out freshies on the reg. One such offering is The Philadelphia Experiment IPA, named after an alleged military experiment which claimed that the union of gravity and electromagnetic radiation could render something invisible. Another week of the global COVID-19 pandemic has ushered us out of the month of May, and we are starting to see some states (and breweries!) open back up and some new restrictions to aid in our safety while we explore this new stage in our country’s history. Continue to stay safe, shop local and do your part in stopping the spread of this disease. And while we typically use this site to bring a positive reprieve away from the real world, it’d be hard not to acknowledge the horrific scene of racism and police brutality that continues to flood our headlines. We here on the Pacific Team are hella stoked on San Francisco Beer Week 2020 and enjoyed both the San Francisco and Berkeley media previews. Now that SFBW is knocking on our door, what better way to get pumped then finding some killer events to attend?! The first night, February 7th, is a no brainer – SFBW Opening Night Gala on Pier 35, put on by the Bay Area Brewers Guild. Our Team has combed through the massive amount of events being put on over the 10 day craft beer week, and honestly still looking cause wow there is a lot happening, and found some can’t miss events for ya’ll!
