PD’s own dissect beer. Leave the pretentiousness on the curb.
Resident Culture Brewing | Vicky Virago Double IPA
March 12, 2018 | Barry BarzOctober of 2017, I decided to take my talents back South to the beautiful city of Charlotte, North Carolina. After four years in Brooklyn’s fast-paced and quite expensive climate, I decided to come back closer to home.
The Mitten Brewing Company | Country Strong American IPA
March 9, 2018 | Jessica Spengler 2I love a good IPA. I know I’m not alone in this, and I do not mind. Because when people love good IPAs, they make good IPAs, and that means more for me. In Michigan, it’s not hard to find good IPAs, which is why when one stands out to me, it’s for good reason. The Mitten Brewing Company’s Country Strong American IPA is just one of those standouts, and it has become my new go-to brew.

SingleCut Beersmiths | Jenny Said
March 6, 2018 | Lora KormosThere’s so many age old questions in life. What came first—the chicken or the egg? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? Who was in the kitchen with Dinah? And perhaps the most important, what was it that Jenny Said?
While pondering some of life’s biggest questions, I was busy browsing the shelves of my local grocery store trying to decide on a beer for this showcase. As I rounded the corner, several 16oz. cans caught my eye. Jenny Said, an imperial IPA from SingleCut Beersmiths was the way to go. Read More
Seismic Brewing Co. | Namazu Oat Pale Ale
March 5, 2018 | Constance Del RioDid you feel that tremor coming from Sonoma County?! The epicenter is Seismic Brewing Co. and you better brace yourself for a lot of aftershocks. When people think of Sonoma I am 90% sure they think of wine country, sun-soaked vines and not about the fantastic beer scene that is exploding up there. Namazu Oat Pale Ale is at the epicenter of that quake.

More Brewing | Henna S’MoRE (Batch 3)
March 2, 2018 | Mike ZollerRarely do I geek out over a specific beer. There’s a lot of great beer out there and getting to live in Chicago, we get the next “must-have” beer more often than not. But when I had More Brewing’s Henna Batch 3, I had a beer that I knew was truly special.
Christian Moerlein Brewing | Over-the-Rhine (OTR) Ale
March 1, 2018 | David NilsenJust north of downtown Cincinnati sits the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The enclave got its name because of the high German population that settled this part of the city in the 19th century. Crossing the former Miami-Erie Canal into this neighborhood was said to be like crossing the Rhine River into Germany.
Iron Hill Brewery | Philly Special
February 28, 2018 | Dan BortzI recently decided to make the hour drive to Iron Hill Brewery‘s Phoenixville, Pennsylvania location. So with my fiancée and daughter in tow, I braved some pretty terrible parking conditions. After a brisk walk down Bridge Street, we were there. Iron Hill is one of the winningest breweries in GABF history, and they brewed a beer for some more recent local champions — the Philadelphia Eagles. Named for the trick play that sealed the Eagles’ victory, Philly Special is a beer that has a few tricks up its own sleeves.

Surly Brewing Co. | 2017 Barrel Aged Darkness
February 27, 2018 | Mike ZollerWhile barrel-aged season peaks in November, there are still great barrel-aged beers being released into early 2018. Surly Brewing is known for a variety of beers, but their stout series, Darkness, is one of the best known beers the Minneapolis brewery releases. The barrel-aged version of Darkness hit shelves recently, so naturally we cut through the wax and poured a glass to see how this year’s version came out.
Christian Moerlein Brewing | Power Stoutage
February 26, 2018 | Craft Beer JoeIn an industry that’s often obsessed with the latest brewery to open, we must not look past beer from the breweries that have been around for more than a few years. Christian Moerlein is a brewery that fits that statement well. They’ve been making beer for years, and they recently released a limited edition beer called Power Stoutage.

Surly Brewing Releases New Hop Shifter Gluten-Reduced IPA
February 23, 2018 | Mike ZollerCrack open two Surly Brewing Hop Shifter IPAs and they might taste different from one another. No, nothing is wrong with either can, the taste difference is by design.
Pilgrim | Triple Blanche
February 22, 2018 | Niel StenderThe first image that pops into my head at the word Pilgrim involves folks wearing tall hats and large-buckled shoes while sharing turkey and Stove Top stuffing with the Indians at Plymouth Rock. You know, historically accurate stuff. Nonetheless, the general premise of the American story involves a pilgrimage — a significant, spiritual journey to a new, location of importance. And although the Swiss do not celebrate ye olde pilgrimage to the New World in search of canned cranberry sauce and green bean casserole, I found a brewery here that celebrates pilgrims in another way.
Wynkoop Brewed a Climbing Chalk Beer & Built a Secret Rock Climbing Wall
February 21, 2018 | Tristan ChanSimilar to writers, who most often draw inspiration from their own surroundings, it’s not surprising to find that brewers often draw inspiration from their own passions as well. However, when those passions center around rock climbing, one would assume that any crossover might only extend to post-workout beers. That said, Wynkoop Brewing has never shied away from brewing with unorthodox ingredients, gaining acclaim for successfully brewing a beer with Rocky Mountain Oysters. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that Wynkoop would be the ones to brew a beer with rock climbing chalk.
Independence Brewing Company | Cowboys from Helles
February 21, 2018 | Pam CatoeAustin-based Independence Brewing Company just announced the release of their newest seasonal — a Munich-style Lager inspired by Pantera’s “Cowboys from Hell.” According to head brewer Brannon Radicke, “We listened to a lot of Pantera while making that beer, so it’s kind of infused with that attitude.”

The Commons Brewery & Epic Brewing | Common Interests
February 20, 2018 | Chris & Sylvia HollandsWhether its music, art, film or food, we are fans of a good collaboration—with no exception when it comes to beer. With the steady rise in craft beer popularity, numerous collaborations between so many like-minded individuals in our community is inevitable. Particularly, The Commons Brewery from Portland and Denver’s Epic Brewing took on a collaboration in a fun and interesting way. While each brewery selected an adjunct ingredient native to their location, they created something unique and tasty. The Commons Brewery brought Oregon red winter wheat and Epic Brewing choose Colorado honeydew melon; together they created a sour ale called Common Interests.

Streetside Brewery | #blessed NE IPA
February 19, 2018 | John AmanteaWhen you think of Ohio craft beer, much of the time you might think of the brewers up north in Cleveland — where Great Lakes, Fat Head’s, Platform and Thirsty Dog have cemented strong regional footholds. As industry in Ohio has exploded over the last couple of years, it’s the cities a few hours south that are truly beginning to make a statement in the beer scene. Few have ascended quite as quickly as The Queen City of Cincinnati. While big-name Rhinegeist has risen to notoriety more recently, a new crop of up-and-comers are emerging with a variety of great offerings. No brewery has embodied this growth more than Streetside Brewery.

Stoup Brewing | Mother of Exiles IPA
February 16, 2018 | Hannah CarlsonIt doesn’t take a lot for me to crave a beer. Has it been a good day? Let’s have a beer. A bad day? Let’s have a beer. It’s sunny out! Let’s have a beer. Oh no, raining again? Better have a beer. Needless to say, I’m easily convinced. But tell me that I’m drinking for a good cause? Well, then let’s have more than one, without a doubt. This is the case with Stoup Brewing’s recently released Mother of Exiles IPA, which benefits the Refugee Women’s Alliance as part of the Beer Trumps Hate campaign.
Schlafly Beer | Pale Ale
February 15, 2018 | Jordan PalmerIt saddens me a bit that back in 1992 when I tried my first craft beer — a Schlafly Beer Pale Ale; I did not have the foresight to realize I was tipping back something special. I didn’t know that it would not only mean something to me 27 years later but inspire me to write about it.
