Ultimate 6er | Ain’t Nothing But a Hound Dog
December 19, 2016 | Stacey GoersWe’ve had a hound dog for years and, with a new home, decided it was time for a second furry family member. We decided on Max, a 70-pound German shepherd/hound mix. We were seemingly seasoned pet owners and confidently walked into this decision with delight. We forgot there’s a learning curve. This Ultimate 6er is for new pet owners and those who discover their pets have a burgeoning affinity for chewing the couch or those of us who just love their dogs.

12 Beers of Christmas | Port Brewing Santa’s Little Helper
December 19, 2016 | Brady AkersABV: 10.5%
When the weather outside gets frightful, a nice big imperial stout can be very delightful, but you should be sure that you’ve got no place to go. For me, one of my favorite big imperial stouts during the holiday season is Port Brewing’s Santa’s Little Helper. Like sweet baby Jesus, Santa’s Little Helper is pure and good in every way. The beer doesn’t have any “holiday seasoning” in it, which is a nice break after pumpkin beer season to avoid nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, etc.
What We’re Drinking | December 16th, 2016
December 16, 2016 | Danele BovaEach year, December signifies the end of a chapter. People tend to reflect on what has happened over the past 12 months, and how they plan to change for the upcoming new year. But here at PorchDrinking we like to reflect back each week on What We’re Drinking.

December 16, 2016 | Holly GerardAnother week with of festive Beerstagrams! I added a few others into the mix this week too, I promise! I just am having a hard time resisting the urge to keep making Beerstagram feel festive but that’s okay, it’s good to be festive! Anyhow, there are a lot of pretty photos in the feed this week, it was hard to narrow them down to this selection! Cheers!
12 Beers of Christmas | Baderbräu Christmas Bliss Baltic Porter
December 16, 2016 | Mathew PowersFrench hens, ladies dancing, swans swimming and, of course, a porter in a beer tree. These are necessary components for a successful 12 days of Christmas. For this writer, the beer found under the tree is Baderbräu Christmas Bliss Baltic Porter with vanilla and orange peel. Because, in Chicago, Jack Frost does more than nip our noses, it darn near renders them red enough to qualify us to guide Santa’s sleigh. Hence, any porter good enough for those traversing the frigid waters of the Baltic Sea is good enough for us living on the ice-covered shores of Lake Michigan.
Two Brothers Brewing | The Craftsman: Tavern, Cafe, Dining and More
December 15, 2016 | Mathew PowersTwo Brothers Brewing champions family, community, and craft culture and The Craftsman location exemplifies that philosophy. Jason and Jim Ebel — the brothers behind the name — recently opened their new tri-level establishment in the Chicago suburb of Naperville. At every turn, one can find examples of artisanship and skill — two indispensable facets of craft culture. Two Brothers repurposed and transformed a historic building that now provides its multi-award winning beer along with its own brand of coffee, made-from-scratch pastries, bread, dinner and brunch, wine, mixology and crafted distilling.

Ultimate 6er | Christmas Cookie & Beer Pairings
December 14, 2016 | Holly GerardIt’s that time of year again for Christmas Cookie and Beer Pairings! Our first edition of this pairing theme kicked off last year as you may remember, and I was very excited to bring it back for a second time this year. I was torn between sticking to all American brews for this year’s edition or if I should add some of those fantastic Belgian Christmas Ales in the mix, but then decided that this year’s version should be strictly All-American. There were definitely some great options for pairing. Also, just like last year, I did some homemade cookies and some store-bought for those of you that like to bake and for those of you that would prefer not to. Now let’s get on to the goods!

12 Beers of Christmas | Snipes Mountain Brewery | Terror
December 13, 2016 | Hannah CarlsonABV: 10%
For me, Christmas time is synonymous with getting my hands on the darkest beers that I can find. And though I can be easily satisfied with a stout with a hint of peppermint, or a porter with a hint of pecan, there is one style in particular that I crave once Christmas tunes start playing and once the tree is decorated: The coveted barrel aged stout. 12 Beers of Christmas | Schloss Eggenberg | Samichlaus Classic 2015
December 12, 2016 | Niel StenderABV: 14%
To represent Switzerland as one of PorchDrinking’s 12 Beers of Christmas, I’m not sure there is a more perfect fit than Samichlaus Classic from Schloss Eggenberg. I was told of this brew by a friend back in the States. Upon learning I was going to become a pretend Swiss resident, he told me about Samichlaus. Not the fat guy in a red jumpsuit – more on that later – but the beer. He said something about it being released once a year and having several years’ worth sitting in his cellar awaiting a vertical tasting. Seeing it on the shelf at the local beer store, I wasted no time buying it. But then wasted lots of time staring at it wondering when I should drink this fabled brew. Along came the 12 Days of Christmas article and my problem – when to drink a beer – was solved.
