Cloudburst Brewing | Astronaut Chic IPA
October 27, 2016 | Hannah CarlsonIt’s no secret: We like IPAs in Seattle. In fact, we really, really, like IPAs in Seattle.
And it’s no wonder. Lucky for us Seattle folk, we are in close proximity to the Yakima Valley, which produces nearly 77% of the country’s hop crop. You read that right. 77%.

PorchDrinking’s Weekly Denver Beer Beat | October 26th, 2016
October 26, 2016 | Jeremiah CorneliusThe Denver Beer Beat sheds light on news of brewery openings, special tappings, firkins and one-off batches, bottle releases, dinners, pairings, etc.
It’s Halloween, Samhain, All Hallows Eve and the time marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the “darker half” of the year. When the veil between the worlds is thin, we attempt to travel between those worlds. The easiest way to travel between those worlds is time travel (we haven’t figured this one out yet, you?!) OR travel by way of partying down in celebration. We have a few celebrations you may want to get out to to see if time travel is possible!

Epic Brewing Company | Oak & Orchard: Syrah
October 26, 2016 | Brady AkersI remember attending the celebration for Epic Brewing‘s first dive into sours in June 2015, including waxing my own bottle of Sour Brainless on Peaches, free peach ice cream and even fire-roasted peaches. The beer was worth the hype and I was immediately excited to see how this souring program would grow.
Ultimate 6er | Cleveland Indians
October 25, 2016 | Kevin RisnerIt has been nineteen years since the Cleveland Indians made it back to the Fall Classic. But I suppose we cannot claim to have the biggest drought at the present especially with the opponent we have…
This time around, we have a scrappy, injury-laden team many have considered underdogs the entire way by almost all the sports analysts out there. But we like it that way. It’s just like Cleveland to be a fly in the ointment, the ones who people count out immediately. So in this Ultimate 6er we include some of the best of Cleveland’s beer scene – with a few surprises that some people may not have considered to try as they head to their favorite bar to check out the Tribe battle with the best of ’em, or perhaps even watching the games in the comfort of home with a few close Cleveland Indians baseball fans.

PorchDrinking Playlists | Songs White People Love Volume III

That’s right white folks, Songs White People Love is back for Volume III, and it’s more awkward than ever.

Event Recap | Where There’s Smoke, There’s Beer
October 25, 2016 | Sydney NielsenWhere There’s Smoke, There’s Beer, another great Barley’s Angels event, went off with a bang last Monday offering up some smoky treats at Links Taproom in Wicker Park. Barley’s Angels, a women’s craft beer appreciation and educational group, sure does know how to pick their taprooms. You would think that with 36 beers on tap, deciding which beer to choose would be a nightmare – but the Links staff is more than happy to discuss your likes and dislikes and recommend the perfect beer. On every wall you can see digital boards displaying the wide variety beers currently on tap and how much of the keg is left. This allows patrons to choose their beers wisely because once a keg is spent, a new brew is on.

Event Preview | The Bruery Black Tuesday Release Party
October 24, 2016 | Karl Kalinkewicz 1October is that spooktacular month where we are visited by all manner of ghouls, goblins, and other graveyard guests. In the midst of scary-oke sing offs and werewolf bar mitzvahs, there is one monster in particular that I eagerly await the arrival of, and that is the behemoth known as Black Tuesday from The Bruery. Every year on the last Tuesday of October – 10/25 this year – there is a celebration in the region of Placentia, CA presenting this roughly 20% ABV stout to the public, and The Bruery goes all out to toast one of its flagship beers. While its namesake recalls the disasters of both the fall of the stock market in 1929 and the legendary day that BT was born, the beer itself reminds us that sometimes you can take a real mess and produce something of absolute quality. Like Tina Fey being able to use Lindsay Lohan to make Mean Girls.
Hop Harvest at Anheuser Busch’s Elk Mountain Farm
October 24, 2016 | Tristan ChanSprawling across 1,700 acres in Idaho’s northern most region lies the world’s largest contiguous hop farm. Elk Mountain Farms, located in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, just 10 miles from the Canadian border, produces a majority of the hops used by Anheuser Busch InBev’s (ABI) High End Brands Division.
Caution Brewing Company | Lao Wang Lager
October 24, 2016 | Dan OldsABV: 5.1% | IBU: 15
Sitting on a busy part of Federal Boulevard in southwest Denver is a small noodle house. Inside this small noodle house sits dishes of soup dumplings, amazingly good pot stickers and other Chinese-Laotian dishes that recently made Lao Wang Noodle House #16 on The 50 Best Restaurants in Denver list, according to Zagat. What is most important, however, is the mouth-quenching Lao Wang Lager that is partnered with the food.
