Schooner EXACT Brewing Co. | 3-Grid IPA
October 27, 2015 | Katelyn Pelak
ABV 6.7% | IBU 62
One of the great things about living in a beer-forward city like Seattle is the beer fluency of the entire city. Virtually every person in the area can carry on a conversation about beer styles and the relative virtues of one brewery over another without prompting, guaranteeing that a diverse set of opinions is just a conversation away. It’s in this way that I discovered the Schooner EXACT 3-Grid IPA.

Behind the Scenes at Rocky Mountain Barrel Company
October 26, 2015 | Chris and Jeff EstesInnovation and experimentation is the name of the craft beer game. The best craft breweries are always looking for ways to make great beers that showcase incredible flavors and unique characteristics. One of the more popular ways to experiment has been with barrel-aged beers. But have you ever wondered where all those barrels come from? We did, so we recently paid a visit to Rocky Mountain Barrel Company, where Sales Manager & Chief Barrel Slinger, Noah Steingraeber, told us all about the barrel business and how they help breweries to create great barrel-aged beer. Wild Woods Brewery | Ponderosa Porter

Picture yourself walking up Mount Sanitas Trailhead in Boulder on a sunny, warm fall day. Your mind is clear and the air is fresh. All of a sudden, you ask yourself, “Am I losing my mind, or do I smell vanilla cupcakes?!”. This is the origin story of Wild Woods Brewery’s Ponderosa Porter as recounted to me by its female co-founder, Erin Evans.

Aquanaut Brewing Co | The Search ESB
October 22, 2015 | Mike Wronski
5.4% ABV | 40 IBU
Searching has become a daily obsession in our modern culture. Our day is consumed with idle searching; Googling a topic, asking Siri a question, scrolling through your Twitter/Facebook feed, flipping through TV channels, entering a YouTube vortex. Billions of dollars have been made off of search algorithms. You most likely ended up on this article via a search.
But then there’s the bigger Search. The lifelong pursuits, the non-stop studying, the week after week commitment to that ever elusive goal. The kind that inspires Captain Ahab’s voyage, haunts Ponce de Leon’s dreams and coaxes Cubs fans into watching them in the postseason. A deeply embedded feeling that stirs and motivates you to action (or U2 action). This is the space where most craft brewers exist, always improving and tweaking, working towards that perfect beer. Ultimate 6er | Halloween Beer Costumes
October 21, 2015 | Niel Stender 2
When I was a child, growing up in suburban New Jersey, there was a Halloween costume contest every year at the park around the corner from our house. The process involved walking around in a circle, with other eager trick-or-treaters, so the judges could get a load of everyone’s gear. The winner for each category received a $2 bill, exciting stuff for a 6-year-old in *cough cough* 1986. I am proud to say I won this contest for one category or another several times. Now that I’m an “adult” I’ll go out on a limb and wager it may have been rigged since my mom was the mayor of our town. But that’s not the point.

3 Floyds Brewing Co. | Zombie Dust (Zombie Edition)
October 21, 2015 | Gregory AceroStyle: Pale Ale | ABV: 6.2% | IBUs: 50
Halloween is right around the corner and it is one of my all time favorite yearly celebrations. I love scary/horror movies and the month of October is just filled with them, but my all-time favorite horror movie genre is ZOMBIES! Living in Western Pennsylvania you can’t help but be a zombie fan, because the genius behind the genre, George A. Romero, attended college here and also filmed his his first zombie flick, Night of the Living Dead right here in Western Pennsylvania. Ever since then, zombies have been a huge hit in pop culture: movies, television series, clothing, sport events and beer. So what better way to bring in the zombie hoard than with 3 Floyds Brewing Zombie Dust?
Happy Hour Post | The Saga Continues
October 20, 2015 | Tristan Chan 1
Times are a changing in the craft beer-o-sphere. Each day, more and more news breaks on acquisitions, ESOPS, private equity stakes, and CEO successions of long time industry staples. We’ve also seen major brewery expansion announcements, exciting bottle releases, event debuts and essentially more news that can possibly be distilled into individual breaking stories and our weekly growler fill alone.
So as we first alluded to nearly a year ago in the debut of the Happy Hour Post, we want to do a better job of serving our readership. We’ll begin slowly, mostly on major news days, and soon moving to a daily format, recapping all of the major beer news that happens each day. But even more so, borrowing from our good friends at Kentucky Sports Radio as they’ve been doing with their their late night post recapping Kentucky sports news each day, we’ll also add a little pop culture to keep things interesting. This is after all, what the porch drinking experience is all about.
Usually this post will take place at the end of the day, but for this kickoff (and since we had such a big news day yesterday) I thought I’d bring y’all a morning shot of Mocha Stout. Lets get to the good stuff. Read More
