LIVE CHAT | 2015 Fantasy Brewery Draft
September 11, 2015 | Tristan Chan
We here at PorchDrinking believe beer should be fun. So two years ago we set out to add a different take on the Great American Beer Festival by inviting a mix of national and local writers to participate in our GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft. Each year we draft breweries based on how we believe they’ll finish during GABF awards ceremony and earn points based on those finishes.
During the inaugural year, PorchDrinking took home the gold, last year Brewtally Insane took first narrowly edging out Mike Snider of USA Today, who also did a wonderful write up of our draft. But this year the field is out for blood. We had a few of the previous year’s participants come and go, but we also added a new host of new talent to join our familiar friends. Here’s how the field shook out.

September 11, 2015 | Kathleen Morton
Tristan asked the staff, what craft brewery would you be most disappointed to see sold to a third party and why? Also would it matter if it were sold to another craft centric brand, one of the big three, or a private equity group?

Hill Farmstead Brewery | George (American Brown Ale)
September 11, 2015 | Tim Daily
Vermont in the summer is something out of a dream. In between the rolling Green Mountains lie breathtaking backdrops, acres of farmland, and pleasant, wonderful people enjoying everything the mountain landscape has to offer. It’s so surreal that it can be hard for visitors to believe they’re experiencing reality.

Event Recap | Great Lakes Burning River Fest 2015
September 9, 2015 | John Amantea
Co-authored by Kevin Risner
John’s Recap of Friday, August 28
As I made my way past the sand volleyball pits on Whiskey Island, forged up and down the hills of Wendy Park through clouds of gnats and approaching the Old Coast Guard Station, I could feel a different air to 2015’s version of Burning River Fest. The station’s main tower rises above the line of trees, bearing the projected logo of the festival. A clear evening and setting sun over the lake set the perfect environment for an intimate affair, as droves of locals made their way to partake in local food, enjoy the live music of Brian Johnson, Gretchen Pleuss, The Portersharks (among other acts) and to taste the debut of Great Lake’s newest brew, Steady Rollin’.
Modern Brewery | Green Goliath
September 9, 2015 | Niel Stender
ABV: 9.0%
Modern Brewery is a relatively new face on the St. Louis beer scene, having celebrated their one-year anniversary this year. But their brews are already creating a buzz. I’ve had several local beer lovers tell me about Green Goliath DIPA. A few months ago, I finally got a small taster of it and quickly understood the reason for the excitement. It rocks. So I was stoked that upon filling my first Synek bag a couple weeks later at a local bar, The Gramophone, to see Modern dominating the taps. Instead of a taster, I treated myself to an entire gallon.
