Southern Tier | Creme Brulee Stout
July 16, 2015 | John Amantea
ABV: 9.5%
Late last summer as my youngest brother, Matt, was getting ready to ship out for his freshman year at Marquette University, our family had one last summer dinner at a local favorite: Beach Club Bistro in Euclid, OH. Known for their amazing pizzas and equally amazing beer selection, Beach Club has always been a great place to kick back, relax and share a meal. On this night in particular, as we gathered to celebrate Matt’s final days before school and chow on some pizza, a certain beer on Beach Club’s list caught my eye. Now, I’m normally a seasonal beer drinker: lighter seasonal ales, shandies, and IPAs in the spring and summer; porters, stouts, and darker seasonal ales in the fall and winter. It’s an M.O. I adhere to pretty consistently. But protocol had to be broken for one beer: Southern Tier’s Crème Brulee Stout. Read More
Roundtable Discussion | Fire Back at Bud
July 15, 2015 | Kate Stark
We try to keep things pretty positive around here. We love the friendship and camaraderie that is a hallmark of the craft brewing community. We want to lift people up for their strengths, applaud their efforts, and rejoice in the great unifier that is beer. That is, until things get hostile. Read More

Quality. Consistency. Camaraderie. These three ideals serve not only as the motto to Denver’s newest neighborhood craft brewery, Call to Arms Brewing Company, but they also echo as a rallying cry to reclaim what the craft beer industry has at some times lost focus on over the past two years. Arbor Brewing Company | Sacred Cow IPA
July 15, 2015 | Kevin Risner
ABV — 6.8%
IBU — 80
I had the great pleasure of attending my friend’s bachelor party last month in Michigan. The original plan on that last Saturday in June was to go to a baseball game. Rain put an X through those plans, and we detoured to Ann Arbor instead. One of our stops was to Arbor Brewing Company, where I indulged in what is now one of my favorite beers of all time: Sacred Cow IPA.

Summer of Growth for Georgia’s Wild Heaven Craft Beers
July 13, 2015 | Jess BakerIn a warehouse about a mile east of the hubbub of historic downtown Decatur, Georgia in the Avondale district, a line snakes out of the front door of Wild Heaven Craft Beers on a steamy July Saturday.
The 95 degree heat index doesn’t seem to bother anyone. Neither does the occasional screech of the Marta light rail or the chug of the railroad nearby. You’re more likely to hear the ‘thump-thump’ of bags hitting the boards from the game of cornhole in the beer garden. Read More
Rude Hippo Brewing | Beeting Heart
July 13, 2015 | Sarah Hargis
ABV: 6.7%
Beets are awesome. First of all, their name differs from beer by only one letter. They are also nutritionally diverse in vitamins and minerals, and therefore benefit important organs such the heart, liver, kidneys, and eyes. Some folks even claim they have cancer-preventing and -fighting capabilities. I have been both a long-time beet lover and a long-time beer lover, but I never once thought to combine the two. I am certainly glad someone did. Read More

Venue Preview | Avanti Food & Beverage
July 10, 2015 | Tristan Chan
3200 Pecos Street
Denver, CO 80211
Welcome to Avanti Food & Beverage. It has a sort of John Hammond, Jurassic Park ring to it, doesn’t it? Well, that’s for good reason. Denver’s newest dining concept is a hybrid of one part restaurant incubator, housing seven developmental eateries operating out of repurposed shipping containers all under one roof, meets another part Sam Calagione’s western Dogfish Head outpost, and a final element of the most amazing view of the city of Denver. For those of you Jurassic World fans, this is the Indominus Rex of restaurants/beer halls.

Beer Cocktails | Double Ginger Moscow Mule
July 9, 2015 | Natalie MigliariniOriginally posted October 23, 2014
A while back I started to notice copper mugs at a lot of the bars in Seattle. I soon realized that Moscow Mules were one of the most popular cocktails among my group of friends. For one they are almost always made consistently good and they taste fresh with a little bit of spice from the ginger.
Event Preview | Ohio Brew Week
July 9, 2015 | Lindsay Krumel
Every summer, Ohio Brew Week takes over my tiny hometown of Athens, Ohio. Unfortunately, I tend to be on vacation for most of it. However, this year, I’m skipping the beach and staying here. The 10th Anniversary of Ohio Brew Week takes place July 10-18, and is bound to be the best one yet!
The brainchild of Dan Gates, former director of Ohio Brew Week, and the late Jon Sparhawk, a local business owner, this week-long “celebration of craft brewing” started as an idea “to attract visitors to Athens in the summertime when Ohio University is not in full session as a way to help restaurants and hotels survive those slower months.” Since then, it has expanded, and now includes more than 76 events, over 276 craft beers and awesome keynote speakers, like Steve Hindy, Chairman and Co-Founder of The Brooklyn Brewery and former Athens paperboy. Ultimate 6er | 2016 Presidential Contenders (Part II)
July 8, 2015 | Katelyn Pelak
When I wrote the original Ultimate 6er for 2016 Presidential Contenders list, there were only four confirmed presidential candidates across the political spectrum. To my delight, 15 candidates have announced since then, making it high time for a second round of the Ultimate 6er: 2016 Presidential Contenders.

Susquehanna Brewing Co. | Pils-Noir
July 8, 2015 | Danny King
One of the best parts about living in New York City in the summer is getting the eff out. I spend as much time as possible myself running away to the woodsy wonders of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The combination of plentiful lakes and rivers, scattering of small towns, apparently every single firefighter from New Jersey working volunteer service, and legal fireworks; the area is gangbusters for all you can stand Americana. To sweeten the vacation deal, the area is flush with smaller brew pubs and craft breweries that allow me to discover a new favorite beer each time I go down there. While the 4th of July day was a literal washout for the folks on Lake Wallenpaupack, it did allow me to discover this wonderful fusion of light pilsner quality with dark tastes that matched the gloomy weather.
Smog City | Kumquat Saison
July 7, 2015 | Jordan de la Torre 1

Even before brewing at Smog City Brewing Company, head brewer Jonathan Porter has been no stranger to the Southern California brewing scene. As former brewmaster of Tustin Brewing, Porter had an award winning resume before heading out on his own—and it shows. Read More
