December 3, 2021 |

Welcome to the first Friday of December! Now that we’re smack dab in the middle of the holiday season, it’s time to enjoy some extra special beers. Many of us will be getting together with family and we all know that is much easier when you have a BBA imperial stout. Cheers to everyone celebrating Hanukah right now–may your glass be full and your stouts be barrel aged. This is what we’re drinking.

November 12, 2021 |

There’s something in the air today. Airborne disease? Probably. Pollution? Definitely — but there’s also something less tangible. Maybe it’s the godforsaken time change that turns early afternoon into pitch-black night for those of us living north of the 37th parallel.

Maybe it’s existential dread hanging over all of our heads like poorly (and prematurely) hung misletoe — inviting us in for a germ-filled kiss of death to kick off the holiday season. Or maybe it’s just a head cold.

Welcome to the first Friday of November. Seriously, where has this year gone? Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe Halloween and an uneventful and safe election day. Thanks to the chaotic nature of politics in recent history, anytime I hear election I want to grab a beer. So without further ado, this is what we’re drinking.

Have you ever been on a diet, but all of your friends are like master chefs or legitimate barebecue pitmasters? That’s kind of what it’s like working for PorchDrinking while you’re taking a brief break from beer. Trying to rest your weary liver while looking at what this crew’s been drinking over the past week is no easy feat.

What We’re Drinking | September 3, 2021

September 3, 2021 |

It’s September. Instead of posting “Wake Me Up When September Ends” memes, fans have taken to the internet to remind people that the song is no laughing matter, and therefore, unmemeable. It’s about Billie Joe Armstrong’s father dying of cancer when he was 10. Sad. Because sadness is most of what the internet is used for these days.

What an age we live in where armchair social media dentists, pet experts, virologists, doctors, child psychologists and parenting experts can get together and combine their collective powers to suck the last remaining joy out of posts with dogs, babies, dogs and babies, or basically anything involving… anything <breathes in, breathes out>. It’s noon somewhere, as they say, and I clearly need to have a beer and chill. Here are some of the excellent beers the PorchDrinking crew’s been gettin’ at this week.

August 20, 2021 |

I wish every time I sat down to write one of these, the world wasn’t literally and figuratively on fire. But here we are. The smoke from the fires in the Northwest are finally leaving Colorado, taking Denver off of the “world’s most polluted cities” list finally. And best of all, football season is back.

Sure it’s predicted to be a harsh, cold winter. Sure, the delta variant is about to wreck everyone’s plans for fall. Tropical storms, tornados, fires, earthquakes — you name it, earth’s got it. So if you need an excuse to drink a beer before noon on a Friday, you’re not really paying attention. Whatever time it is where you are, crack open a beer with us and see what the PorchDrinking team’s been sipping on to make it through the end of summer.

There’s been a very hectic aura in the air around here lately, and it’s likely due to a combination of school starting back, work being busy and the Delta variant of Covid-19 rising in cases. It feels like we somehow back tracked, but maybe we’re on the up-and-up. Maybe that’s a glass half-full perspective. Either way, you did it, it’s Friday and we made it. Cheers to that. Here is What We’re Drinking.

July 23, 2021 |

Holy hell. It’s really about to be August. We have one week of “summer” left, even though I personally feel like that shortens every year. We’re over halfway through the calendar and baseball season, too. School is upon us and fall sports are about to be king. It won’t take long, but the holidays are not too far off, and this year, we should be able to celebrate even more compared to last. I hope you’ve got a little time to slow down and take it easy, but if you’re still busy looking for a new beer to try, here is What We’re Drinking.  Read More

Half the country’s flooding, the other half’s either melting into the ocean or on fire. Not a day goes by when I don’t hear about some jackass delaying a flight or getting kicked off a plane. Condos are collapsing on one coast, record heat waves are draining the other. If I didn’t live through the summer of 2020, I might put this summer high in the running for shittiest summer ever.

But since we have the perspective to be able to say “hey at least it’s not 2020,” let’s go ahead and crack open a beer, take a deep breath and see what the PorchDrinking team’s getting into in this week’s What We’re Drinking.

Summer is settling in quite nice albeit incredibly hot already. Maybe it’s just the fact that it’s nice to be able to do stuff this year when thinking back on how last summer was during the height of the pandemic. Baseball is on, bars are open and taprooms are calling your name! Lagers and Seltzers are sure to dominate pool patios and beach trips. To make sure we aren’t slacking on our end, check out our beers of the last two weeks. Here is What We’re Drinking:

Here are some tasty brews to consider while you adjust to life on the outside again; this is What We’re Drinking.

Last weekend marked the unofficial start to patio beer(s) season. We posed the question on our Instagram account this week, asking if people still drink stouts and strong barrel aged beers during the warmer months. It seems like opinions on the matter vary greatly, and our staff is no exception. Let us know if you still consider summer to be stout season or if you tend to reach for lighter, more refreshing options. This is what we’re drinking to kick off patio season.

It’s been a hell of a two weeks in the craft beer world since we’ve last had a drink check. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then head over to Brienne (@ratmagnet) on Instagram and read the thousands of accounts of sexual harassment, misogyny and unfair treatment to women all across the industry. This movement isn’t something to be funny or cute about, so here’s some of the beers that our staff have had during the last two weeks. Guys  — specifically white bearded dudes in the industry who look just like me — be better. Here is What We’re Drinking:

For all of you who are excited about the CDC’s new mask guidance, slow your roll. I’m glad you’re excited, Mr. “I haven’t developed a third COVID chin,” but some of us were really enjoying having a covered face. I guess I’ll just start washing my whole face again…maybe start shaving again. I dunno, it’s a whole new damn world.

There’s plenty of reason to celebrate this week, obviously, and the PorchDrinking team never fails to deliver. Crack open whatever you’ve been holding onto for a special occasion and check out this week’s What We’re Drinking.

It’s been a tough week, so the best I can come up with is someone else’s words. But on the other hand, you have different fingers (Steven Wright). Anyway, we’ve got warm weather beers, cold weather beers, in-between beers, IPAs, Stouts, adorable pups and a whole lot more in this week’s What We’re Drinking.

There’s been no shortage of activity happening recently and it’s a welcomed sight. Sports are back, industries like music and film are starting to expand again. Vaccinations are becoming available and there’s a positivity that we’re almost to the other side of the pandemic. We’re not there yet, though, so in the meantime, stay resilient, grab a beer, and check out what we’re drinking.

Can you believe it’s almost May? It might be tough to believe considering a large chunk of the nation dealt with snow this past week! April’s fickle weather aside, there is much to celebrate:in this week’s edition of What We’re Drinking. Hundreds of millions have been vaccinated; we flew a helicopter on Mars and today is German Beer Day. Those all sound like good reasons to raise a glass and say Cheers — or Prost!
