Through no fault of our own, we didn’t get to post What We’re Drinking last week. The opposition party believes that this was caused by a vast international conspiracy. Luckily, the chairman of the House Beer Blog Oversight Committee assures me that there is nothing to worry about and has canceled all future hearings on the matter. We should be in the clear, as long as Fake Tears over in the Senate doesn’t dig too deep into this. In order to wipe this minor oversight from your minds, I present a special two-week edition of What We’re Drinking. Fake news!

It seems like I’m the only PorchDrinker who didn’t have an amazing week of craft beer enjoyment. Instead, I had to work lots of overtime because my coworkers were all pretending to be snowed-in in the aftermath of winter storm Stella. I’ve also managed to get sick again. No matter what your views on climate change are, there is no denying that spring is arriving ridiculously early in many parts of the country. This week was full of ups and downs. Super Bowl 51 saw a huge upset by the Patriots who achieved a comeback over the Falcons (some celebrated, many did not.) Lady Gaga put on a kickass halftime show, but left her political side at home (or did she?) Beyonce broke the internet with her pregnancy announcement (the queen is having twins!) And the American public continues to flail about as the political atmosphere remains heavy and foreboding.

The PorchDrinkers didn’t enjoy as many beers as we would have liked this week. Some of us succumbed to seasonal illnesses that made delicious beer turn to ash on our ruined palates. Others of us were in such dire straits that we were forced to turn to “doctors” for relief. Their strange tonics did the trick but, alas, could not be taken with alcohol. January is rolling right along, and many of us are fighting the good fight against seasonal affective disorder. I’m not a licensed physician, but I find that the best tool for self-medication is a big, warming (possible barrel-aged) beer. Apparently the PorchDrinkers agree with me, because they enjoyed a few of those this week. Some think that brighter, fruitier libations are a better panacea for the season, but I believe that those people are quacks. This is What We’re Drinking.
