Behind the Scenes at Rocky Mountain Barrel Company
October 26, 2015 | Chris and Jeff EstesInnovation and experimentation is the name of the craft beer game. The best craft breweries are always looking for ways to make great beers that showcase incredible flavors and unique characteristics. One of the more popular ways to experiment has been with barrel-aged beers. But have you ever wondered where all those barrels come from? We did, so we recently paid a visit to Rocky Mountain Barrel Company, where Sales Manager & Chief Barrel Slinger, Noah Steingraeber, told us all about the barrel business and how they help breweries to create great barrel-aged beer. Pucks & Pints | Beer Pairings for NHL Teams
October 7, 2015 | Victoria Pratt 1The days are getting shorter, leaves are changing color and there is a bit of a chill in the air. That can only mean one thing: the National Hockey League is about to get under way and the hunt for the Stanley Cup is on. What goes well with hockey? The perfect craft brew, of course! This is our toast to the NHL and the delicious beers that remind us how great the game of hockey is. Listed below are the beer pairings for each NHL team. The criteria for the choices of the beers comes down to: regionality, availability, and the relativity of the name or certain aspect of the beer and the team identified. This is purely for fun and we hope you enjoy discovering your team’s beer.
When your team drops the puck for the first time, celebrate the start of the NHL season with a perfect, craft beer. Game on!

How to One Up that Pretzel Necklace
September 24, 2015 | Josh Ritenour 1The age old debate on whether to wear a pretzel necklace to a beer festival dates back to Baron Marzen Dortmunder Zwickel Weizendoppelbock III’s attendance at the very first Oktoberfest in 1810, the tradition continued when Benjamin Franklin donned his own braided treat to Thomas Jefferson’s collaboration fest with fellow founding father Samuel Adams. And now we celebrate these pioneers by donning our own tasty carb-tastic accessories. However, as the times change and fashion evolves we’ve learned to upgrade our necklaces to hold much more than mere pretzels. While some have tricked out their gear with beef jerky, cookies, doughnuts and more, we thought we’d take it to the next level by asking Xzibit to… Read More

September 23, 2015 | Brady Akers
Great American Beer Festival is a great opportunity for beer geeks, like yours truly, to rub elbows with the best in the craft beer industry. Last year, we introduced you to some of the most famous people in the beer world that you might run across at Great American Beer Festival. Out of that list of 25 celeBEERties, I was able to meet 10 of them, including Garrett Oliver, Dick Cantwell and my beer crush, Sam Calagione.
Most of last year’s class will likely attend GABF this year, but we have a new list of beer celebrities to keep your eye out for, including some of the world’s best brewers, actors/musicians that are trying their hand at brewing, and advocates for the industry. Read More
“It’s Not Complicated” | My Chat with Kyle Kinane
September 22, 2015 | Brady Akers
In my opinion, Kyle Kinane is one of the best comedians currently on the circuit. He brought his own style to comedy, combining his enticing storytelling with an incredibly unique view on the world. Even if you don’t think you know who Kyle is, you probably do. Kyle is a nationally touring comedian with multiple specials including Whiskey Icarus. He’s been on Drunk History and won the internet on @midnight more than a handful of times. Also he is the gravelly voice of all the promos you hear on Comedy Central.
Coming up on Wednesday night, Kyle will also be the headliner at Offensively Delicious, a craft beer comedy show that kicks off a weekend full of Great American Beer Festival events (check out our preview here). Kyle gave me a few minutes to talk about his rise in the comedy world, his drinking preferences, and also his exciting upcoming projects.

PorchDrinking’s 2nd Interview with Adam Cayton-Holland
September 18, 2015 | Brady Akers
Almost exactly one year ago, I was lucky enough to interview Adam Cayton-Holland, an up-and-coming Denver comedian on the brink of greatness. In that year, Adam has blown up. Adam’s comedy group, The Grawlix (which includes fellow Denver comedians Ben Roy and Andrew Orvedahl), was named to Variety’s list of Top 10 comedians to watch. The Grawlix also wrote and star in an original comedy series coming to truTV in a few months. Those Who Can’t hilariously explores the trials and tribulations of immature high school teachers.
Adam is back in Denver for the time being and will headline the upcoming Offensively Delicious Craft Beer Comedy Show also starring Sam Tallent, Andy Juett, and Kyle Kinane on September 23 at Oriental Theater in Denver. He took some time to update me on the exciting developments in his life.
The Lorenzo Lamas of Beer Drinkers: My Interview with Andy Juett
September 7, 2015 | Brady Akers
Andy Juett is a comic renaissance man in Denver, Colorado, focusing on stand-up, acting, writing, producing, and hosting. Andy is one of the creators of the High Plains Comedy Festival, which just celebrated its third successful year, and a partner in the Sexpot Comedy. Andy recently starred in and wrote season one of a short online comedy series, Glenn Has Idea$. Andy will be performing at and hosting Offensively Delicious (our preview here), a craft beer comedy show sponsored by Renegade Brewing on Wednesday, September 23, during the Great American Beer Festival.
I sat down with Andy at Renegade to share a beer and a few laughs.
Reasons to Attend Vail Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines Fest
September 2, 2015 | Tristan Chan 1Admittedly, it might be a tad early to think about buying tickets to a beer festival in January, but not when it’s the Vail Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines Festival. I’ve already waxed poetic a number of times on VBBB’s level of awesome.
I’ve also stated before, and I still maintain that this is the best beer festival I have ever attended. In the past, it has also generally been the best kept secret in the beer festival scene, but I have a feeling that title won’t endure much longer (my bad). Luckily for you readers, we’re excited to announce that tickets for the 2016 Vail Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines Fest are on sale NOW. The festival takes place during the afternoon of Saturday, January 10th.
