Like many large to mid-sized breweries in the country, Ska Brewing (Durango, CO) has begun eyeing the next phase of growth to keep up with the rising demands and competition in the craft beer industry. Starting at the end of April, LowDown Brewery + Kitchen will host a month-long charity event, featuring a new IPA tapping every day. The IPA lineup will include LowDown’s own hoppy treats, as well as some of the best IPAs from Denver and around the country. On Friday, April 28, LowDown will tap seven IPAs to launch the event, which will benefit Groundwork Denver.

Avery Brewing Returns to Connecticut Shelves

Boulder’s Avery Brewing Co. announced earlier this month that they would be returning distribution to Connecticut, after leaving the state in 2011 because of financial reasons and growing pains.
Connecticut was one of eight states Avery exited from six years ago, as they had lost “the ability to support all markets with a steady supply of fresh beer,” a press release said at the time. Now, due to a new brewery that opened in 2015 with the capabilities to produce 150,000 barrels, Avery says that can start to handle the larger demand and return to some of places they had to leave.

(Denver, CO) announced the sizable unveiling of its “420 Freedom Pack.” Requiring 4 people to be carried out of the liquor store, the 420 Freedom Pack boasts 17 ½ cases of beer. The 420 pack consists of Declaration’s signature beer series including 1,872 fluid ounces of Impure Penelope Armstrong American IPA and Hardtack Copper Ale, and 1,296 fluid ounces of Purloined Pearl Pale Ale. Most breweries I’ve visited keep some sort of “Idea List” hanging around for different beer ideas and flavor combinations. Sometimes these lists are left exclusively to the employees of the brewery and sometimes they welcome ideas from their customers. In this particular instance, Chris Hill, the founder of Odyssey Beerwerks spent some vacation time in the British Virgin Islands drinking almost exclusively passion fruit – which leads us to our profile of a particular selection on their idea list.

The need for affordable housing has never been greater in Denver. In fact, metro Denver has the highest home prices of any U.S. city not located on a coast. Habitat for Humanity is experiencing the effects of the affordable housing crisis first-hand, with more than 2,000 families reaching out for help in 2016 alone.
