Sinistral Brewing | Draft Favorites
February 26, 2019 | Stacey GoersVirginia’s beer market is booming, with big names and new, sprawling establishments. Among those, Sinistral Brewing Company, located in Manassas, VA, really embraces simplicity, though it certainly isn’t dull. Sinistral takes family and community to heart: its location is right near a commuter rail station; they provide a venue to featuring local musicians and they name beers after colleagues’ children, just to give a few examples.
Brewery Showcase | Aston Abbey Brewing Company
February 14, 2019 | Kurt BevilacquaUnfiltered. Unpasteurized. Unrepentant. That’s what each beer from Aston Abbey Brewing Company prides itself on.
But underneath the bright, refreshing flavors of their West in Peace Wit or the rich, malty aromas of their Bombs Quad lies the heart and soul of Chuck and Sue McKenna within each beer. The two of them have shared some of their fondest memories together, a list that includes opening up Aston Abbey Brewing Company as a husband and wife duo. Read More
Conshohocken Brewing Company | Mr. Robusto
January 28, 2019 | Kurt BevilacquaA quick Google search of the word robust and you will see adjectives like strong, vigorous and rich used to describe the word. With their seasonal release of Mr. Robusto, Conshohocken Brewing Company found a name that accurately advertises this robust porter. Read More
Strange Roots Experimental Ales | Grapeyard Shift
January 21, 2019 | Michelle ThomasI don’t care what season it is—it’s always time for a saison. The word “saison,” after all, means season in French. If you’re like me, you’re always looking for another one to try. And lately, a ton of wine barrel-aged saisons have been popping up. So when I saw Grapeyard Shift from Strange Roots, I knew it belonged in my fridge.
Metropolitan Brewing Celebrates 10 Years of Business in the Increasingly Competitive Chicago Market
January 17, 2019 | Taylor LaabsChicago and the surrounding area are currently home to the most breweries in the nation. It’s an especially impressive stat when you realize that the market hasn’t really been around for that long. Being able to create a successful brewery during the early growth period of the Chicago market and then stay equally successful amongst growing competition across every neighborhood in the city is an impressive feat that deserves a bit of praise. It’s not easy, but Metropolitan Brewing has managed to do it, which is why their upcoming 10 Year Anniversary celebration this Saturday is so exciting.
We Talked with Allagash | Canning Allagash White; River Trip Debut
January 15, 2019 | Zach BenardClassics can stay classics while still getting a refresh. Such is the case for Allagash White, one of the staple Belgian beers in the United States. Allagash announced last week that they’ll be canning Allagash White, as well as a new beer in their core lineup: River Trip. I got in touch with Brett Willis, marketing specialist at Allagash, to learn more about the announcement.
Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company | We’re Going To Need You To Come In On Saturday
January 14, 2019 | Kevin HartnettIt’s Friday afternoon and you can feel the weekend has finally arrived. It’s a short walk from your desk to the door. All you have to do is make it there without being seen. If you can do that, you’re free. The coast looks clear, and you make a break for it. Out of nowhere, there’s Bill. “We’re going to need you to come in on Saturday, mmmk?”
PorchDrinking’s Best in Beer 2018 | The Northeast U.S.
December 28, 2018 | Scott JohnsonOh sure, people talk about the Pacific Northwest, Denver, California… but what about the Northeast? Our craft scene should never be ignored, and 2018 only further proved that point as breweries continued to impress. The PorchDrinking.com Northeast Team wanted to share a few thoughts about the year in beer, 2018.

Foreign Objects Beer Co. | Mystic Flowers of Perpetual Slumber
December 11, 2018 | Michelle ThomasOn a recent trip to Pittsburgh, I decided to visit a bottle shop to see if there was anything this Florida gal couldn’t get her hands on back home. I was immediately taken by the can artwork by a specific brewery; I knew this beer must be something special.
Special, indeed.
Foreign Objects Beer Company is just over a year old but what they’ve got going on belies their young age. Their beer? Amazing. Information about the brewery? Not much. Their intentionally vague descriptions of beers (Ale with hops? Sure.), their brewery and even their location are hard to find and even harder to pin down. Are they in Pottstown, PA, like their can indicated? Are they in New Paltz, NY, like another website said? Are they gypsy brewers? It’s hard to tell, really.
La Cabra Brewing | Mosaic Shatter
December 5, 2018 | Kurt BevilacquaAlong Philadelphia’s Main Line, sits a seven-barrel brewhouse in the suburb of Berwyn, PA. It’s the creation of a once Spanish teacher turned professional brewer. La Cabra Brewing, translated to “the goat” from Spanish, is named appropriately since the brewery shares similar features and traits to the animal. Fun, smart, and persistent are just some of the values both goats and La Cabra embody. And one of the latest releases from the Pennsylvania brewery is an IPA that falls in line with that same philosophy. Read More
Captain Lawrence Brewing Company | Fudgie the Beer
December 4, 2018 | Mike ZollerWho didn’t have a Fudgie the Whale cake for one of their birthdays while growing up? Thanks to Carvel and Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, the iconic ice cream cake has made its way into a beer.
Braven Brewing Makes a Home in New York’s Bushwick Neighborhood
November 26, 2018 | Stacey GoersSincerity can’t be faked — and it can make something that’s good transform into something absolutely wonderful.
Walking into the newly opened Braven Brewing Company in Bushwick on a Tuesday night, you’ll likely receive a warm welcome from the bartenders, hear friends laughing after work and see Cheer’s playing on all the televisions. Read More
Narragansett Brewing Co. | Narragansett Fest
November 21, 2018 | E.G. MettsThose of you still clinging on to the spirit of Oktoberfest you are in luck. Narragansett Brewing Company, founded in Cranston, Rhode Island in 1890, has what ails you. Fashionably late to the season, and coming out of a brief retirement, is Narragansett Fest.
Fox Farm Brewery | The Cabin Smoked Helles Lager
November 16, 2018 | Stephanie MacchioneIn a market so saturated with DDH beers, super-fruited and adjunct overloads (which I should note, I love trying as much as the next beer enthusiast), I find it refreshing when a brewery isn’t steadfast to these trends and unafraid to put out more traditional styles of beer. Fox Farm Brewery in Salem, Connecticut is a brewery that’s doing just that. Their Smoked Helles Lager, The Cabin, is a great beer that deserves the spotlight for this reason.
Brewery Showcase | Honest Weight Artisan Beer
November 1, 2018 | Zach BenardOne of my favorite aspects of the craft beer community is just that: the community. There’s a sense of comfort when you’re able to strike up a conversation with locals about the happenings around town. Contributing to the community is one of the main values for Honest Weight. Located on the edge of the Pioneer Valley and neighboring the Quabbin Reservoir (one of the primary water supplies for Boston), Honest Weight Artisan Beer has started to become a household name in the area.
Dogfish Head | Pennsylvania Tuxedo Spruce Tip Pale Ale
October 19, 2018 | E.G. MettsAnother crisp day means another crisp beer. Autumn brings with it many things, ranging from flannels to hunting season. Dogfish Head, out of Milton, Delaware uses the season to their advantage with the spruce-infused pale, Pennsylvania Tuxedo.
Vault Brewing Company | Sweet Potato Ale
October 18, 2018 | Kurt BevilacquaThe fall brings in a welcoming change as the leaves start to transform into vibrant colors before they gracefully fall to the ground here in the Northeast. Stepping out for fresh air, it noticeably has become crisper as it wisps by. And with everyone ironing their favorite flannels before heading out to enjoy the festive activities of the season, there is another phenomenon that lets you know that fall is upon us: beer shelves lined with various options of pumpkin ales.
But amidst the sea of pumpkin beers, the Pennsylvania-based Vault Brewing Company ventured off on their own quest to ring in the season with its Sweet Potato Ale, which gives beer drinkers a switch from the world of pumpkin-everything and celebrates another savory food that accompanies this time of year nicely.
Ultimate 6er | Six New Standout Beers from Pittsburgh’s Craft Beer Scene
October 17, 2018 | Gregory AceroI am always excited to show you what I have drank from the Pittsburgh area – I say Pittsburgh area because there are some days that I do not acquire craft beer right in the city. There are few breweries that were in my previous article and a few new mentions, but these beers here span the last few months of my beer drinking conquest – so let’s quit this chit-chat and get right into it! Brewery Ommegang | Candi Stout

As we speed through October, the weather (should) become colder and the days become shorter. The finale of the month is Halloween. You can get into the spirit by decorating your home, dressing in costume or you can find your sweet kicks in seasonal beers that have flavors of peanut butter cups or pumpkin pies. One such spirited beer available is Brewery Ommegang Candi Stout.
Brothers Craft Brewing | Blonde Betty Imperial Blonde Ale
October 16, 2018 | Scott JohnsonAutumn is the season of pies. Whether it’s pumpkin, sweet potato or pecan, we all know the colder months bring forth a nostalgic desire for those traditionally warming, sweet sensations. So when the wave of pumpkin-spiced everything (including beer) takes over, how do you stand out? Brothers Craft Brewery cuts to the core of this dilemma by releasing a specially brewed apple ale, Blonde Betty.
There is no beer scene in the Shenandoah Valley without the influence of Brothers Craft Brewery, formerly known as Three Brothers. These guys have been providing wonderful beers in the Appalachian Mountains since the Virginia beer boom in 2012 by catering to both sides of the craft beer spectrum. They recently won Best in Show at the Virginia Craft Beer Cup for their flagship Lil Hellion; their barrel-aged beers like Resolute and Drunken Mornings are loved by rare beer collectors.
