Southern Grist Brewing Co. | Strange Horizons NEIPA
August 20, 2021 | Jesse ValencianaCollaborations between bands and breweries are nothing new. Run the Jewels, for example, seem to agree to beer collabs as often as they agree to play a festival. From wacky creations that never should’ve left the brains of collaborators to killer creations that you wish would never run out, the spectrum of these projects are vast. Regardless, it’s always amusing to see what folks come up with. Read More

Event Recap | Hi-Wire Brewing Presents LagerFest 2021
August 10, 2021 | Christopher HilliardThe morning of Hi-Wire’s LagerFest in Durham, NC, was not at all promising. Storms raged through the night, and the noon start time crept closer and closer. The forecast said the weather should let up, but it’s hard to trust North Carolina weather to cooperate. Fortunately, it was right. By 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, 2021 the rain had eased and by noon it was downright nice out. The rain had cooled everything off and the clouds kept the sun at bay, not a moment too soon for the ‘90s beach-themed LagerFest to kick off.
Fonta Flora | Errday Farmhouse Saison
August 9, 2021 | Christopher HilliardThe magic of North Carolina is in the land. Sandy eastern beaches roll into lush central plains which grow into majestic mountains to the west. Between mountains and plains, just north of Interstate 40, you’ll find magic of another sort: Fonta Flora Brewery.

Other Half Brewing Co. | Ivy City Lager
August 3, 2021 | Loren WhiteFor a variety of reasons, breweries often find it challenging to produce both quality Lagers and Ales– many breweries focus solely on one or the other. One would be forgiven for thinking that the Hazy IPA-producing superstars at Other Half Brewing would be one of these one-trick pony breweries but beers like Ivy City Lager are proof positive that Other Half’s Lager game is no joke.
While many people associate Other Half with their vast assortment of Hazies – at their DC location, only three of the 20 taps are pouring a non-hazy beer — they have quietly been turning out world-class Lagers like their Zipfeltännle Pilsner collaboration with German brewing legends Rothaus, Box Car Helles, and of course the aforementioned Ivy City Lager.

This is the motto of Lexington, Kentucky’s Fusion Brewing and their Stange Days Czech-style Kolsch is a fine exemplar of this motto. Crisp, clean and light yet rich and malty, this fusion of Czech Pilsner and Czech Ale goes down easy any time of the year.
What We’re Drinking | July 23, 2021
July 23, 2021 | Brandon CohranHoly hell. It’s really about to be August. We have one week of “summer” left, even though I personally feel like that shortens every year. We’re over halfway through the calendar and baseball season, too. School is upon us and fall sports are about to be king. It won’t take long, but the holidays are not too far off, and this year, we should be able to celebrate even more compared to last. I hope you’ve got a little time to slow down and take it easy, but if you’re still busy looking for a new beer to try, here is What We’re Drinking. Read More
Elsewhere Brewing | Landscape Lager Organic Keller Pils
July 21, 2021 | Brandon CohranElsewhere Brewing, in Atlanta, Georgia, is undoubtedly one of the best places in town to grab a beer or meal. Travel and adventure are two things close to the heart of owners Sara and Sam Kazmer. This influence of travel is evident in the taplist and kitchen menu. The ambiance invokes the sense of wonder and journey as cacti and greenery sprawl throughout the space.
There’s room at the table for everyone, and a beer for them, too. European-style Pilsners to Fruit Sours, IPAs to Pastry Stouts all have a place on the rotating taplist. The beer getting all of the attention in this showcase, though, is their Landscape Lager Organic Keller Pils. Read More

Michael Moeller, co-founder of Louisville Ale Trail, sent a request to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s office to consider naming the Kentucky Common the official beer style of Kentucky through executive order.
Kentucky has a state flower, a state tree, a state mammal, a state horse, a state food, a state dance, and many more state insignias. It’s time to add a state beer to the list.
Crooked Run Fermentation | Raspberry Lemon Swirl
July 15, 2021 | Jason MurphyClose your eyes for a minute, and clear your mind temporarily. Take yourself back to when you were a kid playing outside with your friends on a hot summer day. You have sweat rolling down your forehead, and it’s just so humid that water isn’t going to cut it to cool you off. Faintly in the distance you hear the unmistakable sound that every kid loves to hear. Sure enough, coming down the street, you catch the first glimpse of a faded pink and yellow van with a huge ice cream cone attached to the roof. Ice cream, that will do the trick!
