Guess what’s happening this weekend! It’s the 4th of July… wait did you cheat and read that on the title? Either way, it’s going to be a great weekend of drinking beer, grilling and possibly lighting off some fireworks. Be careful though, I like fireworks as much as the next person, but you don’t want to be that guy that ends up starting a wildfire. So get out there this weekend and have some fun, without burning down the state, that is.

Other Desi Beer Co. | Jalebae DIPA

June 14, 2021 |

When Ravi Patel launched Other Desi Beer Co. in 2019, one of his primary aims was to share the tastes and flavors of the Indian food that he grew up with through the medium of high-quality craft beer. With several Indian-cuisine-inspired brews already under his belt, including the delightfully bright and zingy 3 Ranis Pink Guava Hibiscus Sour and the deep, layered High Chai Stout featuring cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon, Patel has now pulled off the coup of brewing what may be the first beer to feature India’s national sweet, the jalebi.

Arbeiter Brewing Co. | Hoop Jump Cold IPA

May 27, 2021 |

Have you ever had a “Cold IPA?” No, we are not talking about the one that you just pulled from the refrigerator. The history of a Cold IPA is relatively new, but the development is credited to Wayfinder Beer out of Portland, Ore. Cold IPAs are a thing of beauty and smell the part too. On one side, you have that smell of the hoppiness from an IPA. On the other, you have that clean, crisp style of a lager. Do not mistake these as IPLs, which seems to be a common thread. Read More

With the state opening up more heavily this week, more and more new releases are trickling out. One thing to keep in mind while you’re going out in search of a new beer or two for this weekend is what each brewery’s policy is on wearing masks. Don’t disrespect the staff members if you don’t agree with the policy that the brewery has implemented.

If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, the perfect time might be this weekend. WeldWerks is hosting a walk-up clinic on the 22nd from 1pm – 5:30pm, with every participant receiving a free pint, and a limited edition can of “I Got Vaccinated”. Already been vaccinated, but want to get a free can of “I Got Vaccinated”? Just bring your vaccination card into the brewery starting on the 22nd to pick up a can for yourself too!

New Braunfels Brewing Co. | Death for Breakfast

May 6, 2021 |

Once a phrase linked solely with Oatmeal Stouts, the term ‘breakfast beer’ is now applied to beers ranging from Milkshake and Smoothie Fruited Sours to Oat IPAs. Of course, what you may or may not consider to be a true ‘breakfast beer’ invariably depends on what you choose to have for breakfast, but the link between oat content and breakfastiness in a beer remains undisputed.

Austin Beerworks La Verdad is undoubtedly a champion of Texan Mexican Lagers. Now in its fifth year, the La Verdad was last year’s lockdown savior and kept us from parching even when we weren’t allowed in the water.

Exploring The Perfect Harmony Found Between Beer Releases & Instagram

April 8, 2021 |

Scroll through Instagram’s visual-forward feed, and you’ll find pictures of people celebrating life events, vacations and accomplishments—along with a heavy dose of very prescriptive sponsored posts that make you question your internet browser’s personal data collection policies. You’ll also find a bevy of new beers, pumped up by appeasing photos that appeal to both your eyes and your taste buds. While a striking photo of your latest beer to hit shelves is the standard, many breweries have taken things a step further—perhaps inspired by the poetic musings of the Dont Drink Beers Instagram account—to layer their latest beer release with passages of beer-inspired prose.
