Brewery Showcase | SLO Brew

June 15, 2017 |

Right before you reach the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport, there is an industrial area packed with offices. Tucked off to the side is SLO Brew‘s The Rock, the second brewery location that opened earlier this year. Son of Dr. Stanley Hoffman, one of the pioneers who established the Paso Robles wine region, Mike Hoffman founded SLO Brew in 1988 with Kathy Ireland. It was the first brewpub on the Central Coast since prohibition. The current owner, Hamish Marshall, a beer loving Aussie who fell in love with SLO, took over as owner in 2010.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company | The Shape of Hops to Come

June 15, 2017 |

ABV: 8.5% | IBU: 98

The demand for juicy, Northeast-style IPAs has skyrocketed seemingly overnight. I am always looking to get my hands on these late-hopped brews whenever I see them on draft at a local watering hole. But you also have the traditional West Coast style beers, such as Pliny the Elder. And then, off the banks of the Delaware River, north of Philadelphia in the suburbs of Bucks County, lies a brewery making a DIPA rivaling those true to the West Coast style that’s also infused with characteristics of a Northeast IPA that everyone is loving these days — The Shape of Hops to Come.

Event Recap | Two Brothers Brewing Summer Festival

June 13, 2017 |

Two Brother’s Brewing Summer Festival speaks volumes about the brewery’s identity. The journey for the Ebel brothers started with a brewery that barely turned profits twenty years ago to owning five locations and adding coffee and spirits to its portfolio. But, what defines Two Brothers is not its products as much as the brewery’s propensity to host events and welcome fans into its many homes. From Scottsdale to Oak Park, Oktoberfest to Summerfest, nail-pulling parties to special releases, Two Brothers invites you inside and says, “Welcome to our house, beer’s in the fridge.”

Beer Cocktail | Redneck Mule with UFO White Ale

June 5, 2017 |

Memorial Day weekend signifies the unofficial beginning of summer. Barbecues, parties and parades represent a few traditions that Americans look forward to during this three-day holiday. A new Memorial Day weekend tradition of mine is joining my boyfriend’s family on their annual weekend-long camping excursion. Not just any camping trip, though — this is legitimate redneck camping. Campers travel in droves to the campground and park in Northeast Pennsylvania. Trailers, patio lights, lawn chairs (sometimes the random couch) and plenty of beer cans decorated each campsite, in true backwoods fashion. So, what is more appropriate than creating a cocktail as resourceful as the people I watched create an elevated camper by putting a tent on their truck bed? (Boom. Bed.) Though I do enjoy the classical version of a Moscow Mule, I was low on supplies in the woods and needed to get creative. So, with a beer and a dream, I created the Redneck Mule; a mix of beer and vodka and a bad idea. Part beer, part ginger beer and part vodka, I wanted to create something light, yet citrusy, so I wanted to pick a beer that offered me both.

Drinking a beer while sitting on a bar stool is an image that many people have in their heads when they envision the craft beer scene. Now, times are changing.
