Terrapin Beer Co. | Cumulus Lupulus Imperial IPA

April 12, 2017 |

ABV: 8.1% | IBU: 101

Sometimes, after working night shift, a beer really hits the spot. Society might not approve of the fact that I’m drinking beer at 7:30 in the morning, but I really don’t care what they think. This morning, my wind-down beverage was a Cumulus Lupulus Imperial IPA from Terrapin Beer Company. I almost forgot that I had put it in the fridge a few days ago, but that beautiful blue can and its floating clouds caught my eye.

Scofflaw Brewing Co. | Basement IPA

April 11, 2017 |

Hanging out in the basement has its own special connotation. They don’t usually say things about “your parent’s basement” in any positive manner. It could be the basement that freaked you out as a kid that you still have nightmares about OR it could be a basement man cave, perfect for beer geeks.

In many ways a combination of all three, Scofflaw Brewing got its start on a one-barrel system in the basement of the founder’s mother-in-law of all places. And out of that adventure came Basement IPA, which is quite honestly perfect to drink in any basement or building, field, plot or porch for that matter.

Brewery Showcase | Arches Brewing

March 30, 2017 |

One of the hottest new breweries in the Atlanta-area is Hapeville, Georgia’s Arches Brewing. Hapeville may be an unfamiliar city name, but the brewery is located just north of one of the world’s busiest airports, Hartsfield-Jackson International. Arches is creating a lot of buzz as one of the best new breweries in Georgia (THE best in my opinion), so it’s clearly wasting no time making its mark on the Georgia craft beer landscape.

Journey into the Woodlands

March 16, 2017 |

SweetWater Brewing Company has always pushed an image of nonconformity. Its latest venture, The Woodlands, is no different. Over the last 20 years, SweetWater has focused on growing its brand, and as founder Freddy Bensch explains “We have capacity under control, and can give more time to projects we’ve always aspired to do.” Bensch continued, pointing out, “We’re always challenging ourselves to evolve and master our craft.” The Woodlands is the physical manifestation of the brewery’s vision to push its practice and, as Bensch finished, “…make some really phenomenal beers.” So it was in this spirit of innovation and mastery that the Woodlands was born.

When a brewery comes out of the gate with a Czech-style pilsner, you know they absolutely mean business! SweetWater Brewing Co. | Through the Brambles

February 28, 2017 |

SweetWater Brewing Company and Southeast beer drinking basically go hand in hand. Since 1997, SweetWater has been pumping out their signature 420 Extra Pale Ales and really helped start and shape beer culture in the Atlanta metro area. As craft brew consumption and taste has continued to grow, SweetWater’s beer profile has grown right along with it. Whether lining up for Anniversary Series beers or longing for Dank Tank beers of the past, SweetWater grew a beer following by pushing flavors and higher alcohol content long before this was the “mainstream.”

“Present this beer to a friend. If he does not drink it immediately, slap him as hard as you can. Repeat,” reads the description for Monday Night Brewing’s Slap Fight. Frankly, I couldn’t agree more.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. | Athena Paradiso

February 22, 2017 |

ABV: 4.5%

I hadn’t done much research on what to expect before I tried Creature Comforts Brewing Company’s  Athena Paradiso, so color me surprised when I poured it out and it was a deep red color. (Color me surprised – get it? Haha. Seriously guys. Funny stuff). Paradiso is a fruit treated version of Athena, Creature Comforts year-round Berliner weisse, brewed with tart cherries, raspberries and cranberries. I don’t know if it’s just because of the proximity to the day, but this beer definitely tasted just like Valentine’s Day – a little sweet and a little sour. I guess it’s something to try when you’re not quite sure what you’re in the mood for. Read More

SweetWater Brewing Co. | Grass Monkey

February 13, 2017 |

ABV: 5.4%

It’s February and it may be cold, it may be wintery, but If you are like me you are already thinking about summer. You are yearning for the renewal of sunny days, baseball games and the general atmosphere that comes with a new fresh spring. SweetWater Brewing Company is in the same mindset and their new seasonal beer, Grass Monkey, is here to usher you right into the spring. If you think this is just a simple light delicate spring beer, you don’t know SweetWater. SB 85 Passes and the Future of Georgia Beer

February 8, 2017 | 2

Georgia brewers and imbibers are celebrating a long-awaited victory in legislative progression! The last state in America to prohibit its brewers from selling their own products on-premise is now opening the door for just that. SB 85 Malt Beverages; provide for limited sale at retail by manufacturers, a bill jointly presented by the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild and Georgia Beer Wholesalers Association to the Georgia General Assembly, proposed that the state allow breweries to sell beer for on-site and off-site consumption, to be limited to 3,000 bbls per year per brewery. That bill passed quickly, and with ease, this past week and now awaits its implementation this summer and any interpretations by the Georgia Department of Revenue. To fully appreciate this, let’s take a step back and recap how all this developed.

Ultimate 6er | Six Atlanta Beers For the Big Game

February 2, 2017 |

If you haven’t heard, there’s a big football game on Sunday. (Dear Roger Goodell, I will adhere to licensing rights and avoid using the name of said game, but I think the game will be super!) Let’s face it, for most of us whose teams failed to make it this far, the game featuring New England and Atlanta is secondary to the food, our squares, the commercials, and of course the beer.

So, for those of you rooting for the Falcons, here are six ATL brews that pay homage to the Peach State’s Dirty Birds.
