PorchDrinking Playlist | New-Age Music

April 22, 2014 |

Each decade is known for its musical genres and proliferative sub genres (we distinguish the 60’s from the 70’s, the 80’s from the 90’s, but also the mid 80’s from the early 90’s). Many of the artists from the past few years have recycled “oldie” sounds from decades past (1980’s, 1990’s, and even 2000’s), blending the 80’s and 90’s poppy dance vibes with newer styles.  For instance, releases from Chromeo, Cut Copy or Holy Ghost! have catchy elements that pay homage to the 1980’s, while incorporating rap, dance and electronic themes. This week you’ll find some of this new-age music that, though recent, may sound familiar thanks to regeneration and the appreciation of pieces of music’s history.

PorchDrinking Playlist: Snow Songs

December 17, 2013 |

As children, we’d pull out all the stops when it came to the potential of a snow day. I often think back to countless nights I spent donning pj’s that had been flipped inside out huddled around the window scoping out those first flakes as they caught the glimmer of the street light outside of my house. Because seeing those flittering white flecks meant the sure possibility that we’d be granted a much needed reprieve from school the next day. What followed often resulted in a tribal dance channeled directly to the snow gods to bring the proverbial frozen rain. This playlist of snow songs is devoted to the inner child in us in hopes of a safe and snowy December.
