Have you ever taken an awesome beercation (that’s beer + vacation) to an awesome city, let’s say, an awesome city like Denver? And while you were on said beercation, you drank quite a bit of amazing beer, so much so that you needed to take a little break once you got back home from your beercation because it was just so much beer? But then all your friends started posting pictures of the delicious brews they were enjoying this past week and now you’re having some serious FOMO. Maybe it’s just me. Arigato! SweetWater Brewing Company’s latest dank tank offering, Torikumi, is a collaboration with Telluride Brewing Company. These two rad breweries combined to offer a heady blonde ale that features wasabi.

Why doesn’t anyone ever remind me that a vacation with kids is not a vacation at all? I’m exhausted and need another vacation. Luckily, this is Memorial Day weekend! Once you add a vacation day into the mix and account for my unorthodox schedule, I’m looking at a 6-day weekend! Woot! Event Recap | Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s Burly Beer Fest

PorchDrinking closed out winter with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild during their Burly Beer Fest on Saturday, April 1st. The festival featured 113 different beers with some really rare and special offerings available from 55 different breweries from all across the country. According to Margo Metzger, the Executive Director of the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild, Burly Beer Fest “raised $10,000 to support [the] guild’s mission to make North Carolina the best place to brew beer (and drink beer) in the nation.” Combine all that was available with the general atmosphere provided by the grounds around Sierra Nevada and it was easy to relax, enjoy yourself and sip some huge beers in a proper send off to winter all in support of a great cause.

It seems like I’m the only PorchDrinker who didn’t have an amazing week of craft beer enjoyment. Instead, I had to work lots of overtime because my coworkers were all pretending to be snowed-in in the aftermath of winter storm Stella. I’ve also managed to get sick again. It feels like my esophagus is being shredded with razor blades every time I swallow. This week I’m on the outside looking in as I bring you What We’re Drinking.
Journey into the Woodlands

SweetWater Brewing Company has always pushed an image of nonconformity. Its latest venture, The Woodlands, is no different. Over the last 20 years, SweetWater has focused on growing its brand, and as founder Freddy Bensch explains “We have capacity under control, and can give more time to projects we’ve always aspired to do.” Bensch continued, pointing out, “We’re always challenging ourselves to evolve and master our craft.” The Woodlands is the physical manifestation of the brewery’s vision to push its practice and, as Bensch finished, “…make some really phenomenal beers.” So it was in this spirit of innovation and mastery that the Woodlands was born.

No matter what your views on climate change are, there is no denying that spring is arriving ridiculously early in many parts of the country. Perhaps it was brought on by the unseasonable warm weather, but the PorchDrinkers enjoyed quite a few IPAs this week. That wasn’t all we drank, though! The Augusta, Georgia-based Savannah River Brewing Company held nothing back during their grand opening this weekend.
