Happy Hour Post | The Saga Continues

October 20, 2015 | 1

Times are a changing in the craft beer-o-sphere. Each day, more and more news breaks on acquisitions, ESOPS, private equity stakes, and CEO successions of long time industry staples. We’ve also seen major brewery expansion announcements, exciting bottle releases, event debuts and essentially more news that can possibly be distilled into individual breaking stories and our weekly growler fill alone.

So as we first alluded to nearly a year ago in the debut of the Happy Hour Post, we want to do a better job of serving our readership. We’ll begin slowly, mostly on major news days, and soon moving to a daily format, recapping all of the major beer news that happens each day. But even more so, borrowing from our good friends at Kentucky Sports Radio as they’ve been doing with their their late night post recapping Kentucky sports news each day, we’ll also add a little pop culture to keep things interesting. This is after all, what the porch drinking experience is all about.

Usually this post will take place at the end of the day, but for this kickoff (and since we had such a big news day yesterday) I thought I’d bring y’all a morning shot of Mocha Stout. Lets get to the good stuff. Read More

Roundtable Discussion | Holiday So Nice, Celebrate it Twice?

April 8, 2015 |

Sunday was Easter and this week is Passover. A few week’s ago was St. Patty’s. There are holidays among us. So, in the spirit of celebrating, we asked the staff what pre-existing holiday they would grant a second day of celebration to and where they’d place the deserved repeat in the calendar year. Wouldn’t it be fun to celebrate your favorite holiday twice a year? Dream with us and share your response in the comments below.

Kannah Creek Brewing Co. | Crossed Irons

March 17, 2015 |

ABV: 5.2%
IBU: 30

If you’re an experienced fan of craft beer, I bet there are a few seasonal beer releases you look forward to every year. Maybe you’re waiting for a big and burly barrel-aged stout, a strong holiday ale, or perhaps a super-hoppy triple IPA that people wait hours to taste. While I love many of these beers, today I’d like to suggest an understated spring release from Colorado’s Kannah Creek Brewing Company, Crossed Irons. Granted, an Irish Red isn’t the type of brew that usually has people lining up around the block, but how about one that supports a good cause? Read More

New Belgium/Perennial Artisan Ales | Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout

October 20, 2014 |

ABV: 9%
IBU: 35

It seems like every time I talk to someone outside St. Louis about the craft beer here, they ask me about Perennial Artisan Ales.  Either they’ve had it and are raving fans or they’ve heard about it and want to get their hands on some. It’s understandable considering the quality of the brew Perennial puts out and their participation in the overall scene. If you follow them around the labyrinth of the internet, you know they’re up to a LOT of good things. Brewer meet and greets, beer dinners and festivals all over the country. Not to mention collaborations with the likes of Evil Twin, Half Acre, Prairie Artisan, et cetera, et cetera. But if you aren’t familiar with them yet, you’re likely going to be thanks to this new bomber of delicious teamwork – New Belgium/Perennial Artisan Ales Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout, the latest addition to the Lips of Faith series.
