Pop Culture Week In Review: April 13-19
April 19, 2013 | Drew TrollerThough I was born a full 13 years after the release of Star Wars: Episode 4, there may be no movie which influenced or defined me quite like the Star Wars franchise. When I was 5 years old, I watched the entire original trilogy over the course of a weekend at my grandma’s house. I was never the same. I’ve joked before that my parents never had to give me the birds-and-the-bees talk, because by hooking me on Star Wars, they assured I’d be abstinent forever. Even at 23, I’m confident no woman will ever measure up to the ideal that is Princess Leia.
So what does all of this have to do with this week’s pop culture week in review? Well, there’s an amazing clip that you need to see. Read More
Pop Culture Week In Review 3/29 – 4/5
April 5, 2013 | Nik HeimachI was going to open this article as I normally do, rife with raucous wordplay, comedic puns and a thematic undertone that riddles its way throughout the article. “Outrageous!” you declare. “I now, as a dedicated reader who exists, feel cheated! Why?!” Well, frankly, because Roger Ebert died. That’s why. Happy? Of course you’re not.
We Are All Florida Gulf Coast University
March 25, 2013 | Adam ReevesAfter the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, there is only one team to write about: the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles. Few had ever heard of this team before March Madness began – and if you did, it was probably because of the coach’s wife. With wins over Georgetown and San Diego State University, all that has now changed. Read More
Pop Culture Review 2/16 – 2/23
February 23, 2013 | Nik HeimachLet’s cut the fluff and get right down to brass tax; a lot happened this week, a lot is still happening, and you don’t have time to sit around not knowing about it. I get it, you get it, we get it, and I’m here to tell you, it’s cool. Relax. Crack a cold one. I got this.

Pop Culture Week in Review 1/5-1/12
January 12, 2013 | Nik HeimachThis week, nominations came spilling into and over our collective consciousness for every film and television show we wanted-to-but-didn’t-get-the-chance to see. But for all of the Hollywood hoopla, leave it to Piers Morgan and CNN to finally get the most of our attention. In an interview with radio sensation Alex Jones, Piers sought what many journalists have since the shooting sprees of late: debate about gun control. Instead, he got screamed at, mocked, threatened, and flabbergasted by a certifiable lunatic seeking to deport him. OoOoOoOoooo! Entertainment!
PorchDrinking Playlist: Apocalypse Now
December 18, 2012 | Tristan ChanSo the Mayans think it’s the end of the world. Well I have news for you… that already happened back around the time when they stopped making Dunkaroos, cancelled Arrested Development, when Bob Barker retired, and Justin Timberlake stopped making music. Yes the alleged apocalypse is upon us this Friday and so we thought we’d round up a list of tunes to help ring in the end of days.
Roundtable Discussion: Halloween Costumes Edition
October 24, 2012 | Tristan ChanHalloween is just under a week away so we asked our writers what their favorite halloween memories were. What resulted was an in depth trip down memory lane consisting of costumes and candy grabbing blunders. What were your favorite Halloween costumes/memories growing up? Comment below!
Pop-Culture Week in Review – September 29 – October 5
October 7, 2012 | Nik HeimachThroughout the week, I try to catch some sort of pop-culture phenomenon that can help lead off my review. In order to make the cut, the idea needs to be equal parts strange, funny, quirky and somewhat relevant to interesting events in entertainment. So, luckily during the presidential debate, the folks at Touchstone Pictures decided to air this trailer. Watch it.
Pop Culture Week in Review: 9/1 – 9/9
September 9, 2012 | Nik HeimachKnow, dear reader: we live in trying political times. The right hates the left, the left lampoons the right and between the destructive forces of the two-party system lay the twitching corpse of the American electorate, tragically caught in the crossfire. Read More

Pop Culture Week in Review: March 1-7, 2014 [PORCHIES Edition]
March 7, 2014 | Drew TrollerDid you see the Oscars? Whether the answer is “yes” or “no,” your co-workers/friends/family/Uber driver probably have given you their two cents on this week’s Oscars festivities. But c’mon. This is a pop culture WEEK in review, not just a recap of something that happened at the very beginning of the week. I could show you all the funny gifs of events from the Oscars or point out that PorchDrinking is amazing at predicting awards or even talk about how witty my fellow pop culture writers were on the live blog… but I won’t (I just did). Instead, in the spirit of the Oscars — and since it’ll be awhile before any real awards shows come around again — I present THE PORCHIES, a totally made-up awards ceremony I’m hosting right in the middle of this Pop Culture Week In Review. Get your tuxes ready!
