Brewery Showcase | Drake’s Brewing Co.
July 26, 2018 | Constance Del RioDrake’s Brewing Co. was founded back in 1989 by Roger Lind in what was half of an old Chrysler Dodge factory powerhouse in San Leandro, CA. Back then, the brewery was named after Lind, Lind Brewing Company, and he brewed English-style ales. Lind built the original gravity-fed brewing system himself (10 barrels) but he left the brewery in 1998. Drake’s was owned by JBR Coffee Company from 1998-2008 and then John Martin, who Lind used to previously work for at Triple Rock Brewery, purchased Drake’s in 2008.

Many fans even line up outside the brewery as early as 3 a.m. in anticipation for the release. Read More
Drake’s Brewing Company | Denogginizer
October 1, 2015 | Victoria Pratt 1
ABV: 9.75% | IBU: 90
Drake’s Brewing Company, founded by Roger Lind, started in 1989 with two stainless steel dairy tanks, a fifteen barrel kettle, one fermenter, and a few British pub cellar tanks. The goal was simple: create good English-style ales. Eventually with the addition of fresh Pacific Northwest hops, top quality malt, and a neutral California ale yeast strain, the ales started to take a more distinct, west coast style. Years passed, recipes refined and evolved and in 2004 Drake’s created Denogginizer, a perfect nod to their English style roots along with a toast to their West Coast hop evolution, tying their past to their present.
Event Recap | Session Beer Fest 2022
July 26, 2022 | Danielle EngelThe Bay Area is known for its temperate climate; this past Saturday, it delivered. People enjoyed a gorgeous sunny day as they meandered through Snow Park, which sits adjacent to Lake Merrit. The chilled attitudes and low ABVs at Session Beer Fest 2022 all added up to a laid-back event that felt more like hanging out at one’s favorite beer garden rather than an organized beer festival. It’s one of the aspects that Lauren Young Mortensen, Marketing and Events Manager of Drake’s Brewing, loves about this event.
“Session Fest is a celebration of delicious low ABV beers, amazing people, and the good vibes that come with them. I love this festival because you can join in as new or seasoned drinker to experience amazing local craft beer, and inevitably contribute to the energy that is Session Fest. With an ABV cap of 5% or less, this fest shifts the focus from “what’s your highest ABV?” to amazing flavor and brewing talent.” As their motto says, Less is More.
Event Preview | Session Fest 2022
July 21, 2022 | Danielle EngelIt’s been three years since Drake’s Brewing Co. has been able to throw their summer classic with Bike East Bay. But Session Fest is finally back for its eighth year, this Saturday. With no beer over 5% being poured, it is meant to be an easy going afternoon where you get to sample the lower-end ABVs that breweries have to offer. Hopefully, this makes for hangover-free Sunday the next day.
Event Recap | East Bay Kick-off Party SF Beer Week
February 21, 2022 | Danielle EngelWith Covid numbers surging yet again in the winter of 2021, the Bay Area Brewers Guild knew that they would have to go with an alternate plan for the kick off to Beer Week. The usual opening gala for the start of San Francisco Beer Week would have to be split up, five different venues, each one in a different region of the Bay Area. As I did not have the time or liver to do all five in a night, only one was attended.

Event Preview | San Francisco Beer Week 2022
February 11, 2022 | Danielle EngelWith somehow only a year without San Francisco Beer Week, this weekend marks its comeback. February 11-20 brings with it 10 days of beer fests, brewery activities, and beer releases. Although the usual grand, almost 150-brewery attended, gala that usually kicks off the week has had to be altered, it’s good to see that such an anticipated yearly event has returned.

We’re not there yet, though, so in the meantime, stay resilient, grab a beer, and check out what we’re drinking.
Ultimate 6er | The Evil Villains Prefer Dark Beer
August 25, 2020 | Marc BeckleyIn the comics and movies, evil villains spend both day and night obsessing with how to topple our lives and destroy the good guys. However, after a long day of plotting and scheming, these villains still need a beer to help unwind. As you would imagine, many of them prefer brooding Stouts in one form or another: The darker side draws them in and makes them feel warm.
What We’re Drinking | March 20, 2020
March 20, 2020 | Seth GarlandHello, good people. If you’re reading this, you know that things in the world are pretty bad. So yet again, in direct opposition to my natural state of being, I’d like to share a few positive things with you for this week’s What We’re Drinking.
As bad as things are—and make no mistake, they’re bad for a lot of people: Losing businesses, losing jobs, losing loved ones—there’s definitely a silver lining somewhere. We can’t see it now. Nothing feels great at the moment. But it’ll come.

Beers to Get Over Your Ex
February 11, 2020 | Karen MillsValentine’s Day is right around the corner. The day can open up old wounds or make fresh ones sting a bit more when it’s a fresh heartbreak; you might even be cheers-ing to the end of a toxic and draining relationship. Regardless of the situation, having a beer in hand or a stocked fridge might help take the edge off.* Although I am personally in a relationship, I was curious to see what others would want to have on-hand, so I’ve rounded up some beers for anyone who is trying to get over an ex… or simply wants to make their Valentine’s date a frosty beer.
