Besides writing about beer, Matt also enjoys sports, music, humor, cars, camping, reading academic research and spending time with his family.

Josh RitenourJosh Ritenour

Social Media Manager & Editor

Hometown: Monclova, OH

Current: Waterville, OH

Favorite Beer: Balanced IPAs, Barrel-Aged, Sours & Funk

Born and bred in the great state of O-H-I-O, Josh grew up like most Midwesterners: drinking macro beer and having a sudden urge to move away. It was only during his move down South that he discovered craft beer. Ironically, it was Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, brewed a little over 100 miles north of his hometown. Since then his palate has matured into a love of everything sour and barrel-aged. His favorite beercation spots are Asheville, NC, Denver, CO and Grand Rapids, MI.

Chris WallnerChris Wallner

Writer

Hometown: McHenry, IL

Current: Denver, CO

Favorite Beer: Everyday beer, Odell IPA. If I can find it, Black Tuesday.

After moving to Colorado 8+ years ago I fell in love with the craft beer scene. The small local community feel, the new styles and experimentation, and the overall (mostly) friendly atmosphere made me search out as many places as I could. As the scene continues to grow it is exciting to trade for beers from across the country to get a local flavor of what is new and exciting outside of my distribution area. When not searching out a new brewery I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, hiking, skiing, being in the mountains, and biking. When travelling the country for my next Bike MS event I always make it a priority to stop in at some local places to see what is going on and what beers can be drank. After all, beer is a great post ride drink and a great way to celebrate.

Favorite Beer: I don’t think I’d be able to pick just one. Ska Brewing Mexican Logger, Something Brewery Fruity Sparkles, WeldWerks Tropical Milkshake IPA are some of my favorites.

After slowly making her way east-bound, Karen found that Colorado fits most (if not all) her passions: her two puppies, the outdoors, fit lifestyle and most importantly, craft beer. When Karen isn’t at her day job coordinating various marketing projects, she seeks out beer adventures with great company. Not to mention, she loves being able to write about and share those adventures. You can also find her on Instagram @karencmills or @theadventurouspint! Cheers!

When not slinging drinks, spot Jack wapping the flippers of a pinball machine or at a local show, craft beer in hand.

Katie de la Rosa

Katie is a former journalist who realized one day she wanted to move from one side of the bar to the other. She worked as a taproom and communications manager for Wibby Brewing in Longmont for two years before recently moving on to Epic Brewing in Denver. If she’s not talking to you about how awesome South Louisiana is and how you really should visit sometime, she’s probably watching sports or documentaries with her fiancee, Emma, and dog, Puzzles. But let’s be honest: she’s probably talking about Louisiana.

She likes to spend her free time drinking beer with her husband and finds crafting relaxing.

I have a BS of Science from University of Denver where I studied Finance and Accounting. Worked in IT straight out of college until I got into photography a few years ago and decided I wanted to find a way to do that in the beer industry and the rest is history. Kevin Kain

Ever seen that meme of the evolution of a beer geek that starts with lager and ends with lager? That’s basically Kevin. He does enjoy an array of styles, but is most impressed these days with humble beers that he tries to showcase on his blog, Casket Beer. When not working as an urban planner, or raising two wonderful daughters, Kevin dedicates his time to beer (thinking and drinking), and listening to his records. Jereme Zimmerman Jereme Zimmerman

Contributing Writer

Hometown: Twin Meadows Goat Farm, KY (Just outside of Glencoe, KY)

Current Town: Berea, KY

Favorite Beer: DuClaw’s Sweet Baby Jesus! (Along with about a billion others)

Jereme grew up cavorting around the hills of the Northern Kentucky goat farm where he was also homeschooled. His dad made hooch and threw an annual goat roast and kegger every year for over 25 years. Some of his earliest memories are of playing with his Star Wars toys under the table while his grandparents drank beer and listened to Oompah music at Cincinnati Oktoberfests. He attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, where he majored in English with an unofficial minor in Craft Beer. He then left the hills of Kentucky for several years to be a mountain biking, beer-drinking bum in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest. He also worked some during that period, forging together a freelance writing career that has been going strong (with the occasional wobble) for over 15 years. Upon returning to Kentucky, he transitioned his writing career from mostly boring technical stuff to writing and speaking about fermentation and homesteading topics (initially, under the pseudonym RedHeadedYeti). Among other things, he is currently on the Fermentation Advisory Board for Fermentation magazine and is a columnist for Plant Healer magazine. His first book Make Mead Like a Viking was published in 2015, and his second book Brew Beer Like a Yeti was published in 2018. He is very humble.

Meghan Howes

Editor

Hometown: Canton, OH

Current town: Denver, CO

Favorite Beer: Cuvée Des Jacobins Rouge, Red Evelyn Imperial Red Rye IPA (Black Shirt Brewing Co), Speciation’s Allopatric, anything from Fremont

Born with a cleft palate in the cradle of the NFL, raised in a super-conservative household by Evangelical Christians, Meghan is a bit of a black sheep. Baa baa.

After graduating from The College of Wooster with a BA In English, she did some time bookselling in New Haven, Connecticut, before heading west to the University of Montana for her MFA in Creative Writing (poetry). Howes then taught writing for two years (including a stint as the U of M’s Poetry Fellow) before accepting a job in Colorado at the University of Denver College of Law in 1999.

In 2008, she was promoted to assistant dean of communications, a position that she held for nine years. After vacating the deanship, Howes landed her “dream job” as director of communications for Black Shirt Brewing Co in Denver. She conveniently lives less than a mile from the brewery, in the Cole neighborhood, where she and her wife of 21 years bought a house in 2002. Live music, poetry, well-built beer, bicycles, #vanlife, dogs, and the Western History Collection at the Denver Public Library are a few of her favorite things.

Favorite Beer: Flower Power Ithaca Beer Co.

If I’m not enjoying a craft beer I’m probably obsessing over my cat Luna. Yes, she’s a black cat and she was also born on Friday the 13th so I’m probably cursed for life? I think it’s safe to say that I can beat anybody in Mario Kart. Fun Fact: I have a tattoo of Koopa Troopa drinking a beer on my ankle(sorry mom).

Favorite Beer: Any coffee beer, especially ones from Something Brewery

I made my way out to Colorado in 2015 and instantly became a beer snob. I enjoy traveling and finding breweries along the way. I started my beer instagram @BeerswithaBlonde in 2019 to share my beer experiences. I recently began homebrewing as well and love learning more about the process behind making delicious beer. I also enjoy swimming, hiking and rock climbing in my free time. For my day job I work as a Physical Therapist in Outpatient Orthopedics and am studying for my Orthopedic Certified Specialist.

Favorite Beer: Hard to say, and it usually changes depending on the season

I first fell in love with craft beer over a decade ago after watching a documentary on the science and history behind Dogfish Head’s Midas Touch. That beer holds a special place in my heart to this day. My main hobbies include drinking beer (of course!), spending time with my dog Hunter, trying to stay active by hiking at nearby state parks, visiting local craft breweries, spending time with my two idiot sisters, going to outdoor concerts, and reading books on engineering disasters.
