What We’re Drinking | April 22nd, 2016
Lanie Novack

I think… *checks weather report*… I think… *looks up at sky*… I think it’s safe to say this gorgeous PorchDrinking weather is here to stay! I’m writing this from my front porch right now, in fact. With the good ol’ Colorado perma-sun in full swing, “sun’s out, guns out” season has inevitably returned. The brotanks and short-shorts are back, y’all. This is bittersweet for me because 1. I was blessed with zero athletic ability whatsoever, and 2. I really like beer.

The good news is that beer-drinkers and fitness lovers alike are finding all sorts of ways to mesh the two together — “Retox and Detox!” Heh. Beer and Yoga is a big to-do lately, and there are all sorts of beer and running events happening this Spring and Summer, too. (Check out this beer run starting at Ratio Beerworks tomorrow!) So, I  bit the bullet and bought new pair of fancy-shmancy running shoes yesterday. (But seriously, when did running shoes get so fancy?…Like, my shoes are literally shiny. And purple.) Guess where I ran not even an hour after purchasing them? To a brewery. Oops.

Let’s be real, as nice as it probably feels to be ultra-healthy, we all love beer. Otherwise we wouldn’t be here. So yes, go outside this weekend and enjoy the sunshine. Run around, kick a soccer ball, climb a mountain… but maybe pack a cooler full of delicious brewskis first. This weekend, we drink to the sun. *Clink*

Waldo’s Special Ale | Lagunitas Brewing Company

Lagunitas - The Waldos' Special Ale

“At a staggering 11.5% abv, I would have thought this brew would be a hoppy barleywine. It’s definitely not!  Positioning itself as the ‘dankest’ beer they have ever made this beer is surprisingly balanced. Don’t get me wrong, there is some smelly hop goo going on. Good stuff. Cheers!” —  Chris Hollands

Motif Reserva | Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

CrookedStaveMotif

“Another Denver purchase: Crooked Stave’s Motif Reserva! Don’t normally do sours, but this was aged in whiskey barrels so I chose it over the others there. I got the whiskey in smell and taste. Very tart at first and ends with some nice spice. 2 for 2!” — Kevin Risner

Creature Comforts Brewing Co.

CreatureComforts

“Southeast PD sported a teeny rouge from the gorgeous day celebrating Creature Comforts 2 year anniversary. In the glass Josh has Existence, a stout aged 19 mo. in Willet Bourbon Barrels. John and I both have Cellarman’s Pils, made with 1000 Faces coffee from Athens. #staycurious2” — Jess Baker

Athena Berliner Weisse | Creature Comforts Brewing Co.

Athena Berliner Weisse - Creature Comforts Brewing Co. “Creature Comfort’s Athena is the perfect “shower-beer”. It starts with a tangy, acidic smell and tart flavors before cleaning up for a smooth wheat finish. Kind of like my shower I suppose, a little funky before getting cleaned up!” — Johnathan Pylant

Rebel Raw Double IPA | Sam Adams

samadams-min

“Samuel Adams Rebel Raw Double IPA. Celtics basketball and this East Coast hop bomb DIPA are a perfect playoff pair. It’s unfiltered and cloudy, this Raw beer is delicious!” — Victoria Pratt

Waiting for the Bloom | Tired Hands Brewing Company

Tiredhands-min

“It’s like a beermosa without having to add your own OJ. After having this, I’m hooked on the hype. Take my money, Tired Hands, take my money.” — Cory Pelc
