Boys Are From Märzen Ep. 37 Kim Collins
Kindsey Bernhard

In Episode 37 of the “Boys Are From Märzen” podcast, Kindsey Bernhard converses with Kim Collins, owner and head brewer at Guardian Brewing Company in Saugatuck, Michigan.

Kim Collins was teaching at Indiana University when she realized it was time to take her passion for homebrewing and craft beer to the next level. She wanted to start brewing professionally. Collins spent time at Tommyknocker Brewery, Boulder Beer Company, Epic Brewing, Barrels and Bottles Brewery and Wynkoop Brewing Company before she realized it was time to open her own brewery.

Collins opened Guardian Brewing Company in 2018, which features 8 year-round taps and 14 seasonal, one-off, and barreled-aged taps offering a wide variety of styles of beer that range from classic to modern.

All of Guardian Brewing’s leadership roles are filled by women, which just made sense for Collins and what she was trying to build at Guardian.

In addition to Guardian, Collins is on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Brewers Guild and is the Co-Chair of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee.

In this episode, Kindsey and Kim discuss all things Guardian Brewing, having all women in leadership roles, her start in professional brewing and her role with the Michigan Craft Brewers Guild.
