Southern Lager Invitational – Presented by Bootleg Biology & Riverbend Malt House

Location: Harding House Brewing Company – 904 51st Ave, Nashville, TN

When: Sunday, May 7  | 7pm – 10pm

What: Celebrate Southern Lagers made by southern producers using southern ingredients! We have lined up collaborations with brewers across the south for an evening of crisp, refreshing perfection.

So what is a Modern Southern Lager? Open to interpretation, this unofficial beer style tends to be a dry-finishing, lower-ABV beer with a big frothy head and a hint of corn sweetness that is counterbalanced by relatively assertive hop bitterness. It pairs well with sweltering heat. Another way of putting it is a Corn Pilsner, or a modern take on the Pre-Prohibition Lagers that used to rely on 6-row barley and flaked corn.

Across the South and thanks to malt companies like Asheville’s Riverbend Malt House, craft breweries now have access to well modified 2-row barley varieties and malted corn that update this style well. Riverbend and yeast laboratory Bootleg Biology have encouraged craft brewers across the South to brew their answer to the question ‘What is a Modern Southern Lager’ to serve at a celebration of long, cold fermentation at this upcoming CBC event.

Participating Breweries: Barrique Brewing and Blending (TN) // Brutalist Brewing/King State (FL) // Cahaba (AL) // Cellarest (NC) // Cherry Street (GA) // DSSLVR (NC) // East Nashville Beer Works (TN) // Fait La Force (TN) // Fonta Flora Brewery (NC) // Fullsteam (NC) // Harding House (TN) // Inner Voice (GA) // Little Animals (TN) // New Anthem (NC) // Our Mutual Friend (CO, collab w/ Fait La Force) // Sceptre Brewing Arts (GA) // Soul and Spirits (TN) // TennFold (TN).
