As we finish up another year of beer, it’s time to look ahead to what we’ll be pouring, sipping and loving around the Midwest in 2018. I’ve reached out to a few of our town’s best brewers to see what we can expect from them in the next Year of Beer.
Up in Hannibal, MO, the team at Mark Twain Brewery is gearing up for some serious growth.
Here we are again, Pop Culture Week In Review. I love/hate writing these because, unlike feature stories, they’re completely reactionary. Any color added is thanks to what’s happening throughout the week instead of some predetermined idea or narrative. It’s simultaneously exciting and frustrating to not know what you’re going to be writing about until the picture becomes clearer the closer a deadline gets, but if nothing else, it’s unique.
Like the beers we review, sometimes it’s refined, and other times it falls flat. Who knows how this one will go — all I’ve got is a few key ingredients. Let’s see how well they sit.
Goodness gracious, people from movies and TV love alcohol. I’m one of those nerds who scrutinizes any scene with drinking to figure out what specifically characters ordered (my friends got angry when we went to see “Friends With Benefits” because I was the guy saying “Oh, they’re drinking Shiner Bock. I like that beer!”). But you don’t always have to study beer labels or examine a cocktail glass to deduce what characters are drinking; sometimes they order stuff so often, their drink becomes a character trait. Here’s a look at what some of our favorite on-screen heroes drink over and over and over again. Hit up the comments section to let us know what drinks of choice we missed.
