PorchDrinking Playlist | Tom Petty: An American Boy
Throughout life, I have gone through numerous shifts in my taste of music. I am open-minded for all genres of tunes, but there was a moment when I was particularly close-minded when it came to what I would put into my cassette/CD player. It had to be loud and full of distorted guitars and in the late 80s and early 90s, there were very few exceptions. However, Tom Petty was always the one true exception. An American poet with a guitar and a melody. For me, he was the enhanced version of Bob Dylan, a song writer who appealed to the masses with his thought provoking lyrics and unique delivery. The albums Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers are both examples of when an artist produces flawless masterpieces from the first to the final number.
I hate writing about another lost legend who seemed to have so many more years to go. There is no playlist that can capture everything Petty meant to everyone, but this one hits all the right notes.
