PorchDrinking is a firm supporter of the manta “drink local.” But there’s plenty of incredible craft beer that doesn’t come from your neck of the woods. I live in Austin, the capital of Texas and the city with the most craft breweries in the state. I could exclusively drink beers from my home town; however, I’d be making a mistake by ignoring my Texas beer brethren. The beer coming out of the Dallas Metroplex rivals its hipper southern city. It’s harder to find, but worth the effort to pick up.

Abita Brewing Company | Horchata Turbodog

The world of limited releases is vast, and usually you have a good reason to go after them. Maybe you’re so into the brewery that you post up 12 hours before opening in order to snag it on opening day. Maybe you’re attempting to try every rice beer made in the tri-state area and if you can’t get your hands on this you’ll never be complete. Sometimes, like my trial of Abita‘s Horchata Turbodog, there’s just a beer that looks like your pup at the Mexican grocery store you go to to stock up for a snowstorm. No matter what path you take to find Horchata Turbodog, there’s a cozy dark ale waiting for your taste buds to nestle into it.

Lone Tree Brewing Company | Horchata Stout

After a bit of time in hibernation, Lone Tree Brewing’s Horchata Stout comes back for a third year—this time with refreshed artwork. Horchata Stout is part of the brewery’s Branching Out series which consists of experimental, super limited beers in large format bottles that are great for sharing. On a side note, I was able to capture a photo of Horchata Stout not only resting on a lone tree but also nestled among branches. How’s that for art in the most literal sense?
