Hello again, PorchDrinkers! We’re bringing you the best of May 2013, which featured the return of The Lonely Island and a pre-prison single release from Lauryn Hill (remember her?). There’s also a couple early album of the year candidates (Mikal …
Summer is almost here! Finally (hopefully) done with the winter weather, we can finally turn our attention to the finer things in life – biking, park drinking and outdoor concerts. But we need a summer jam – an anthem – …
Take a leap of faith and hop on into our Easter Bunny playlist. I’m sure you’ll be jumping for joy after listening to this collection of songs about hopping, jumping and leaping. Happy Easter everyone!
We’ve put together a pretty damn expansive Valentine’s Day playlist. You want indie rock romance? We’ve got it. You want R&B? We’ve got that, too. You want a couple “anti-romance” songs? Oh, you’d better believe we’ve got a couple of those. So enjoy our selections – feel free to suggest any that we may have missed in the comments below. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Is the Super Bowl back up yet? Yes? OK, well, we’re back with the playlist for new music January 2013. There have been a surge of amazing artists releasing albums and singles this month. David Bowie? JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE? Local Natives? It’s been a good month.
So you’re sitting on your couch checking your Facebook during commercials and a catchy tune snaps you out of your lull only to catch the last few seconds of the ad. Back to your phone as you Google the fragments of lyrics that you can remember, then to Spotify to confirm your findings, and just like that you’ve got your latest batch of great new songs.
There weren’t a lot of new releases to close out the year, but there were plenty of fantastic reissues. Check out the December 2012 PorchDrinking Playlist as we bring back a bit of nostalgia with tracks from Interpol and The Smashing Pumpkins. Speaking of nostalgia, Green Day and Lifehouse each released new albums. Enjoy!
Merry Christmas from the folks at Porch Drinking! As promised, here is the BEST Christmas playlist you’re likely to encounter, featuring a variety of standards you’re likely familiar with as well as several renditions by newer artists/bands. We hope you …
So the Mayans think it’s the end of the world. Well I have news for you… that already happened back around the time when they stopped making Dunkaroos, cancelled Arrested Development, when Bob Barker retired, and Justin Timberlake stopped making music. Yes the alleged apocalypse is upon us this Friday and so we thought we’d round up a list of tunes to help ring in the end of days.
Christmas music is pretty hard to escape this time of year. At the grocery store, on the radio, on TV and, frankly, it’s kind of unfair. There are plenty of other winter related tunes that are forced to take a back seat to the merriment and jingle-jangling of this month’s carols. So I decided that I’d present a Christmas-free playlist to highlight 20 of winter’s best tunes, and don’t worry we’ll have a holly jolly playlist for you soon as well. This list includes several December themed songs and concludes with a few that just embody the feeling of winter. Feel free to share your own in the comments section below.
Even relative “down” months in terms of music releases still produce some pretty amazing songs. Our November 2012 Playlist features tracks from Punch Brothers, The Shins, Jason Isbell and many others. Enjoy!
P.S. Stay tuned for a suitably epic …
I typically reserve Amurrrcuhhh the Playlist for my favorite holiday, Amurrrcuhhh Day. Oh you don’t follow? July 4th. But only every four years do we have the right to elect our President of the United States, and what’s more Amurrrcan than that? Look I realize that many folks have become jaded by all of the ads, attacks, lines, and even politics of this and more recent elections. But lets remember that our founding fathers and mothers fought to bring us all equality in the right to vote. So I remind you to do your part, and exercise that right. Make history count, because your vote certainly does.
In honor of my forthcoming birthday this Thursday, I decided to hijack this week’s PorchDrinking Playlist to highlight some of my favorite jams. This mix of my top playlist picks includes a melange of favorites both old and new. It starts with my all time favorite, Paul Simon’s Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, then transitions from slower mellower tunes to those that are a bit more upbeat. Let me know if you like what you hear!
There were plenty of amazing releases in the month of September. Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons, Kanye (kind of?) and Grizzly Bear each debuted new albums. So sit back, relax and enjoy the soothing update to our PorchDrinking monthly playlist.
* Editor’s Note: The PorchDrinking Playlist will feature weekly post to help aid in your porch drinking sessions. Some like the one today, will be themed toward specific genres.
