When the cold weather begins to settle in, for me the craft beers tend to change from light to dark. Fall has come and when fall arrives, “everything” pumpkin comes out: pumpkin beers, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin cookies, etc. But for me around this time, I love to find me a good stout. Don’t get me wrong, pumpkin beers are great, but in my personal opinion a stout is a perfect beer for the fall and winter season.

This milk stout came to me from my Beer Club, my lovely fiancé surprised me with on my 29th birthday. Once I saw that a stout was included in the beer package, I was instantly excited! River Horse Brewing Company Oatmeal Milk Stout is a great stout for the fall and winter season. This beer poured a beautiful dark brown color with a nice tan head. The smell of oats, chocolate, milk and coffee tingle your senses. As you sip it, you can taste the creaminess of the stout; it leaves you with a sweet chocolate coffee aftertaste.

What gives this stout its great characteristics and taste?
Hops: Golding, Hallertau
Malt: Pilsen, Munich, Roasted Barley, Chocolate, Black, and Caramel

Stouts beers are like my coffee during the day and night. You know the Folgers jingle? “The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup”. For me it’s “The best part of waking up is a nice stout in your cup”. So if you need a break from the pumpkin beers, switch over to the dark side and grab a River Horse Brewing Oatmeal Milk Stout.
