2023 Colorado’s Can’t Miss Black Friday Beer Releases

The holiday season is officially upon us, and that means the thrill of shopping for others in crowded spaces has begun. Instead of fighting the ravenous hordes at a tortuous big box store, why not enjoy some tasty beer?

Black Friday marks a big day in the craft beer community as many breweries release special and limited edition beers, many of them made big and boozy for a warming liquid cold weather blanket. We have rounded up a list of 2023 Colorado Black Friday craft beer releases for your perusal and enjoyment.

Convince the family to stop by one of these establishments while you’re out and about fighting off the crowds and that turkey hangover. Beer also makes for a great present for that special friend or family member!


Russian Imperial Stout + Variants Releases @ Station 26 Brewing

Where: Station 26 Brewing – 7045 E 38th Ave, Denver, CO

When: Friday, November 24 at 11am

Details:

Station 26 will be tapping their Russian Imperial Stout variants, jammin’, and hosting an Outdoor Lovers, Colorado Brands Market!

This Black Friday event will also feature an outdoor market from 12-3 pm happening. Meier Skis will be on hand offering a build-your-own ski pole booth… making hand-made ski poles one of the best gifts for that special ski fiend. Live Music from 1-4pm with the Red Sax Jazz Trio.


Midnight on the Run + Variants Releases @ Wiley Roots Brewing

Where: Wiley Roots Brewing – 625 3rd St, Greeley, CO

Details:

Midnight on the Run is a rich dark chocolate Imperial Stout conditioned on Ghanaian cacao nibs and named after the brewery’s black cat, Midnight.

On Friday, November 24, 2023 at 12pm, four variants of Midnight on the Run will be available on-site and to-go from the taproom, including the base chocolate Imperial Stout, Cinnamon Midnight on the Run, Hazelnut Midnight on the Run, and Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Midnight on the Run, which was aged for 24 months in a single Laws Secale Rye barrel.


Coda & Uhl’s x5 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Releases @ Coda Brewing

Where: Coda Brewing – 15965 S Golden Rd, Golden, CO

Coda Brewing Co. and Uhl’s Brewing Co. will be hosting a Black Friday Bourbon Barrel Party starting at 12pm on November 24, 2023 in Golden, Colorado.   These two breweries are proud to present five barrel-aged beers for this special day.  Two are from Coda’s barrel program and three are collaborations that were pulled from Uhl’s old barrel collection.   Food will be provided all day by Mona Lisa food truck.  There will be over 200 retro ski suits for sale by Retro Colorado.  On top of all the barrel-aged beers these two breweries are releasing, the two owners of Coda and Uhl’s, Luke and Aaron respectively, will be pulling special beers out of their personal cellars to share throughout the day with everyone.  Rumor even has it that Aaron will be behind the bar pouring one last time.  Bring the whole family or get away with friends because this is one big day you won’t want to miss.

FOUR STICKS – A Traditional Imperial Stout made with the finest English malts, hops and yeast to survive the one-year journey in freshly dumped Leopold Bros. Bourbon barrels and weighs in at 13.9% ABV. This beer was named after a heavy-hitting Led Zeppelin song and specifically Bonham’s intricate use of time signatures and his use of two drumsticks in each hand. We feel the complexity of the song matches the depth and complexity of the beer with notes of chocolate truffles, bourbon soaked vanilla beans and raisin bread. Side note, in order to fit the barrels in our space we stack them in the same shape as Bonham’s metaphysical symbol, three interlocking rings. This symbol can also be found on the back of the Four Sticks can which we will release soon.

MORNING BELL – An English-style Barleywine in collaboration with Golden Moon Distillery that led to a blend of floor-malted English Maris Otter malts, English hops and yeast with a more traditional lighter color. We started with French oak port wine casks then Golden Moon’s Bourbon and finished with Morning Bell. Notes of toffee & Goertz old-fashioned caramel candies. Aged for one year with a final ABV of 11.8%

Collaborations with Uhl’s Brewing

Deeper Darker Depths • Rum Barrel Aged Reserve Imperial Stout – A decadent rich Imperial stout that slumbered in a first-use St Martinique French Caribbean rum barrel. We enlisted a Copious amounts of various chocolate and specialty crystal malts that were married together with the barrel from the time spent resting in it. Huge notes of chocolate and molasses with the esters of a Caribbean Rum. This stout has the highest ABV we have ever produced. It slumbered for 12,820 hours. This is also the first time we have ever released a Deeper Darker Depths! It is named so because it is an astonishing 15.2% ABV.

Deep Dark Depths Jr. – Bourbon Barrel Aged Reserve Imperial Stout – A Stagg Jr. barrel sort of fell into our barrel house way back of our delivery truck way back in September of 2021. We knew it had to be filled with one of our Imperial Stouts. Fast forward to November 2023 and we can safely say this is the oldest barrel-aged imperial stout we have ever produced. It spent a staggering 18,980 hours slumbering away in that Jr. soaking up all the rich flavors. Notes of caramel, bourbon and chocolate define this stout and at 14.5% ABV it packs quite the punch.

Eviction Notice – Boundaries be damned, styles be damned, now get outta the damn building. Eviction Notice started as a Belgian Quadruple that was transferred to and rested in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel for 14 months. We then racked the ale onto dried Montmorency cherries and Lambic cultures brought back from Belgium. 18 months later it was racked and conditioned for another 6 months. Making this the oldest project ever produced out of the barrel program – 38 months! Guezey, cherry and wood notes on the nose. Medium body, big tart cherry flavor with a dry tannic finish that dances on the pallet making you wonder and think. It is a purely experimental beer brought to life for your enjoyment. Watch out because this one will sneak up on you as it clocks in at an amazing 11.8% ABV!


Double Barrel Aged Anaphora and Wood-Finished Intent Release @ New Image Brewing

Where: New Image Brewing – 5622 Yukon Street, Arvada, CO

Details:

Double Barrel Anaphora – Blend 3 – imperial stout aged 24-36 months in rye whisky and bourbon casks, blended, re-barreled and aged an additional 6 months in freshly dumped rye whisky casks from Kentucky.

Wood Finished Intent – Blend 2 – blend of barleywines aged for 43 months in Kentucky rye whisky casks and 15 months in PX sherry casks then finished them with an infusion of medium toast, American oak.


DBA Mr. Sandman & Christmas Quandry Release @ River North Brewery

Where: River North Brewery – 6021 Washington St a, Denver, CO & 3400 Blake St, Denver, CO

Double Barrel Aged Mr. Sandman was aged in Colorado Bourbon barrels followed by Colorado Whiskey barrels. -16.44% ABV

Christmas Quandary was brewed with a classic holiday blend of cinnamon, orange peel, clove, and allspice. -11% ABV

For the second release in our “A Toast to Legends” collaboration series with Beer Kulture, we procured a pallet of gorgeous ripe organic Mexican raspberries. The resulting blend, with an MT3 spontaneous beer base, is a true celebration of all things bright and berry-forward. The nose on this fermentation is fresh raspberry yogurt and the poignant acidity keeps us reaching for another sip, pairing beautifully with your holiday meals. All proceeds from this beer benefit “Black History, Black Present, Black Future,” a program supported by Beer Kulture. Our friends and partners @beerkulture are a non-profit dedicated to increasing diversity, inclusion, and equity in the craft beverage space through humanitarian assistance, educational programs, and compassionate community services. As with the newest entrant to our collaborations with Beer Kulture, 100% proceeds of these cellar collaborations will go to “Black History, Black Present, Black Future,” a fundraising campaign to support Black Communities, Black Entrepreneurs and Black Businesses by way of individual assistance and small business grants. This collaboration between Primitive Beer and Novel Strand is yet another wonderful excuse for friends to hang out and create that sweet, sweet funk juice, blending a classic 3-year assemblage of our Colorado #SponSponBingBong with Funk Shwei, a new-age, one-of-a-kind “table fermentation” created by Novel Strand. Funk Shwei results from the combination of Iron Goddess (Taiwanese Black Tea grown at elevation in the Yunan Mountains) with Lychee and Brettanomyces. The union of Novel Strand’s tea-infused fruited table beer with our mature blend creates a delightful medley of low-alcohol funk, fruit, and fun.
CuriosiTEA is a relatively small blend, with most of our bottles allocated to members, so grab the goods sooner than later if interested and enjoy on draught for a limited time at The Barrel House.

Using the freshest of hop cones picked directly from the bine without drying and steeped in a blend of our 18month young spontaneous beer the day of harvest, we worked with our friends Billy Goat Hop Farm, LLC to source Multihead Hops to add big flavors of melon, passionfruit, and salsa-garden herbaceousness to an already fruity blend of beer that showcased an aromatic profile and crisp acidity reminiscent of our favorite New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines. For those not familiar with Multihead, it is the result of breeding indigenous Hops from New Mexico and Colorado (Humulus lupulus var. Neomexicanus) as opposed to the more common breeding programs centered around European Hops. Given that our beers are made with 100% Colorado ingredients, the selection of Multihead furthers our goals of expressing terroir by focusing on ingredients endemic to our Blendery.
We’ve debuted Foggy Mist of Morning on Beer Engine at The Barrel House and a few local events beginning in late September, and finally we have a portion ready to-go in Bag-in-Box.

Luxe, an imperial stout aged in sherry-finished bourbon casks with @luxardoofficial maraschino cherries. With the original Maraschino Cherry as our inspiration, this beer delivers a big flavor, wonderful barrel complexity, and a stunning balance of this iconic cherry with our imperial stout at a 13.2% ABV.

Single Barrel is a 14.3% Imperial stout aged in a @lawswhiskey barrel. With a slightly lighter body and notes of dark chocolate and tobacco, this stout presents the most complexity in the lineup. The barrel used has a storied past at Laws Whiskey House.

Tranquil is an unadulterated and still barrel-aged imperial stout, and it’s available on Black Friday.
Not all beer needs bubbles. This rich Imperial Stout has all the traits you’ll love, but as if you are drinking it straight from the barrel.
