There truly is something special about drinking a beer that’s not available in your home town. Granted, Colorado has a wide array of world class breweries and spirits, there is something nostalgic about Terrapin.

I’ve been sitting on my Wake ‘n’ Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout since 2012, and the time has come to open this gem up and remind myself of just how bloody good it is. Sitting at 8.1% this rich black stout pours like motor oil with little to no head retention. On the nose there’s a french press dark roast richness with notes of dark chocolate and a little bit of toasted coconut.

Aging has killed almost all of the heat and unveiled characteristics of baking chocolate bitterness, light roast coffee and a tinge of molasses — all with a dry finish. A silky mouthfeel pairs well with the depth and complexity of the flavors. Honestly, Terrapin’s W-n-B celebrates the beauty of bringing the love of beer to some of those most passionate.
