Weekly Growler Fill | National Beer News Roundup

American Craft Beer Week starts today, Odell releases a new brew, and Wedge Brewing Co. has some choice words for North Carolina’s HB2. Start your week off right with a little craft beer news. Keep reading to catch all the details in this edition of the Weekly Growler Fill.

American Craft Beer Week Starts Today!

American Craft Beer Week – the best week ever – begins today, May 16th, and continues until May 22nd. In order to celebrate smaller-scale brewing and (mostly) small businesses, brewers in all 50 states participated in brewing the ‘biggest small beer ever made’. The brew is a part of the nationwide campaign #MakeSmallBeerBig, presented by CraftBeer.com. The goal is to showcase the beer and create a unifying voice for the craft brewing community. However, drinking this beer isn’t the only way to celebrate #ACBW. On May 19th, the American Craft Beer Week Nationwide Toast will take place at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT. There are also hundreds of other events going on all over the US. Check out the full event map here to find out how to commemorate your favorite week of the year. While you’re at it, introduce a few non-craft drinkers (if you know any) to the deliciousness of craft beer so we can continue to grow this amazing industry. Cheers, America! [Read full article]

Odell Brewing Announces New American Pale Ale

Drumroll APA Odell Brewing

Odell is making an addition to their year-round offerings with their newest creation, Drumroll APA.  It has been two whole years since Odell added to the year-round lineup, but the newest brew surely will not let you down. The unfiltered American pale ale is tropically hop forward and tastes like pineapple, orange, mango, and grapefruit. Dubbed “the-go-to that goes with,” Drumroll was crafted as the perfect companion for getting out and enjoying whatever the day holds. Drumroll American Pale Ale will be available in 12-pack 12oz cans and draft beginning this June throughout the brewery’s twelve state distribution footprint. Odell Brewing plans to celebrate the release with a kick-off tour in Old Town Fort Collins on Thursday, June 9 from 5-9pm. [Read full article]

Asheville Brewery Has A Profanity-Filled Message For The North Carolina Bathroom Law

The Wedge Brewing Company

As we’ve documented over the past week weeks, many breweries in North Carolina have taken a stance against HB2, also known as the ‘bathroom bill’. The most recent brewery to stick it to the man is Wedge Brewing Company, located in Asheville, NC. Wedge protested the discriminatory bill by printing “#F*CK HB2” on the bottoms of their very popular Iron Rail IPA cans. Fans of the beer quickly noticed and took to Twitter to publicize the brewery’s view. Apparently Gov. Pat McCrory is not a fan, though, as his supportive views about HB2 have not yet changed. Saugatuck Brewing Pokes Budweiser for ‘America’ Name Change

Murica Saugatuck Brewing

As you may have heard, Budweiser recently announced that they would be changing the name of their beer to ‘America’ for the summer. If you didn’t know about the arrogant move, Tristan documented it in full detail and it is definitely worth the read. Nevertheless, Saugatuck Brewing in Michigan decided to also release news of rebranding as a way to poke fun at the brewing giant. In their Facebook announcement about the name change to ‘Murica, the brewery wrote, “We’re very proud to introduce our brand new name and packaging, along with the assurance that all of our beer is brewed under the careful watch of 1,776 Bald Eagles. This ensures that every drop of our beer is as true and honest as our fore fathers before us. Unlike other “America” beers, our brewery is completely American owned.” The name-change is actually a joke so you won’t be seeing ‘Murica in stores anytime soon. However, I would definitely buy this made-up beer that apparently tastes like freedom. [Read full article]
