Well, 2020 was certainly one for the books! And, while most of these year-end reports could go on about how difficult the year has been, there is a lot to celebrate. Of course, with lockdowns, restrictions, and curfews all contributing to a down year, we are happy to say that our local breweries have so far made it through by weathering the elements and persevering.
In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, people across the country have been supporting the Black Lives Matter movement through protests, donations, signing petitions, calling their representatives, and more. But one more way to more directly make the craft beer industry a more diverse and welcoming community is by actively spending your money at Black-owned breweries.
AB InBev stands for Anheuser-Busch InBev, and the company makes up some popular brands such as Budweiser, Corona, Stella Artois and Beck’s. AB InBev bought its first craft brewer in 2011, Goose Island. In January, it purchased Seattle-based Elysian Brewing Co., making it the fourth craft brewery acquisition by the world’s largest beer company in the last five years.
Other craft breweries could be next. We asked our staff which breweries they would be upset to see bought by the $1 billion/year company.
If there is one thing I absolutely need so that I cheerfully adjust to the seasonal transition of Fall, it would have to be pumpkin. Nothing says comfort like an over-sized sweater, multicolored horizon, warm fireplace, and a tall pint.
