Rhinegeist Brewery | Trips American Wild Ale

Rhinegeist Taproom

ABV: 7.5% | IBU: 12

A few weekends ago, Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati, Ohio had their anniversary party celebrating “Three Years of Thirst!” Located in the historical Over the Rhine Brewery District, Rhinegeist has been able to utilize the old Moerlein bottling plant and transform it into the go-to hangout spot for weekend outings. The brewery just recently opened up their rooftop bar, which provides an incredible view of the city. Along with the amazing scenery, there is a full bar with plenty of their delicious beers and ciders on draft. As if that wasn’t enough reason to visit Rhinegeist, the main hall also plays host to countless activities such as corn hole board, ping pong tables and back in the day wiffle ball also made the rare appearance. This place is just that big!

Snip20160627_4The anniversary weekend’s event played host host to a summer camp themed party, which included live music, DJs, movies on a projector screen, and specialty/rare beers tapped every hour. While at the party, I was able to enjoy their new wild ale, Trips. This beautiful beer is a sour ale with sour cherries and currants added during fermentation. On that extremely hot day and while soaking in the rays on the rooftop, this beer was the perfect choice. Trips is a refreshing tart sour which made it easy to down multiple rounds. It pours a pinkish-red color, with slight head retention. This beer starts with a tart cherry flavor with a nice clean finish. Not only was this beer delicious on draft but at $10 a bomber, it was a steal. For anyone who missed out on the bottle release Trips will be seeing some distribution starting this week. After drinking the bomber I purchased, I know I’m on the hunt for more. Now I raise my glass for the success and I wish for the best in the continuing growth and expansion of Rhinegeist Brewery. Three cheers for three years!
