2019 Craft Brewers Conference External Events Guide

Denver from The Source

While the Craft Brewers Conference is an amazing opportunity to gain valuable education from the multitude of sessions and seminars, as brewers we know the real fun comes with the after-parties surrounding the conference. To help you navigate the week-long schedule of tap takeovers, beer dinners, special releases and more surrounding CBC we put together a day-by-day external events guide. Use the menu below to quickly navigate to the corresponding day.

Additionally we will be updating this guide throughout the week, so if we missed an event be sure to shoot us a message.

We went Euro with the ingredients and brewed this oak-aged strong saison with Brett with Mistral hops from France and Eraclea Pilsner malt from Italy. The beer fermented in Cellar West’s wine casks with mixed cultures from their brewery and the addition of different cultures from our brewery as well. We love this beer and we hope you enjoy it, too.

We make plenty but make sure you get here on release day to guarantee your cans.***

*Mochi Ice Cream IPA Mixed Pack – Inspired by those little Japanese Mochi Ice Cream balls found most everywhere these days. Each of these beers has an identical malt profile made up of locally malted barley from Root Shoot Malting, flaked oats, Japanese short grain sweet rice and lactose sugar. From there they differ; different hops, different yeasts, and different adjunct fermenter additions. We’re releasing these beers as a mixed 4 pack. 2 cans of the Green Tea Mochi and 2 cans of the Mango Mochi.

*Mango Mochi – Mochi Ice Cream IPA -This Mochi Ice Cream IPA has over 33 pounds of Mango Puree per barrel, and a touch of vanilla. It’s a big juicy mango ice cream bomb, hopped with over 7.5 pounds per barrel of Cashmere, Citra, and Mosaic Hops. Fermented with Norwegian Kviek yeast.

*Green Tea Mochi – Mochi Ice Cream IPA -. This one has 3 pounds of green tea per barrel, and a touch of vanilla. It’s very much for the Green Tea Ice Cream fan but enough grassy and juicy hops with over 7.5 pounds per barrel of Olicana, Jester and Huell Melon to please the hop-head as well. Fermented with A blend of NEIPA yeasts. 4pk 16oz cans will be $16 – no limit

1pm Saturday, April 6 | Unidentified Friends IPA Release @ Fiction Beer Co – 7101 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO

What: Can & draft release.
ᗷᗩFFᒪƐᗰƐᑎƬ. ᗷƐFᑌᗪᗪᒪƐᗰƐᑎƬ. ᗷƐᗯƖᒪᗪƐᖇᗰƐᑎƬ. ᗷƐᗰᑌᔕƐᗰƐᑎƬ.

This is a mixed 4 pack of IPA styles we’ve been known to brew. The catch? Each IPA is ᑌᑎƖᗪƐᑎƬƖFƖƐᗪ.
We wanted to throw out preconceived notions about a beer and challenge you—the consumer—to try something blind. Each can is distinctly different. We encourage you to first taste the beer from the can, evaluate it, discern what aromas come to mind and what flavors you taste. Can you guess which style? Next, pour into a glass and consume the beer as you normally would. We want you to experience the beers for what they are without our lengthy, adjective-laden descriptions, and without someone else’s idea of what it should be. You be the taster, you write the description. And then let us know if you liked it.

The bottom of each can contains the true name of the beer you are drinking. Go to www.fictionbeer.com/beers and see if your descriptions approximate to ours. Tag us on Instagram @fictionbeer and give us your comments on how the experiment went. We want to know how you would describe these beers. Enjoy the puzzlement.

The epic Battle of the Brewmasters comes to a dramatic conclusion as The Post Brewing Co.’s Nick Tedeschi takes on Dogfish Head’s Bryan Selders on Sunday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. Selders was the founding brewer at The Post when it first opened its doors in 2014, and was Tedeschi’s mentor for three years before heading back to the East Coast to rejoin Dogfish Head, where he’d been lead brewer for nearly a decade.

Now, the two will face off in the final round of The Post’s Battle of the Brewmasters: East Coast Edition. They will pair one of their signature beers with each course of a four-course East Coast feast from The Post’s Chef & Owner Brett “Smitty” Smith. Guests will get the chance to vote for their favorite pairing after each course, and at the end of the night a winner will be crowned victorious! Voting will be conducted live on Instagram so folks can follow along throughout the competition. Tickets are $60 per person and available here.

3pm – 10pm | April Can Release: Friendly Fire & Different Strokes @ Novel Strand Brewing – 305 1st Avenue, Denver, CO

Hey Y’all! We’re pretty stoked for this next can release! It’s going to be our first (and only) Tuesday opening, and we’re doing it especially for CBC! Check out what we got:

Beer:
DIFFERENT STROKES:
We are honored to have collaborated with our dear friends, Bierstadt Lagerhaus, on this beer. Ashleigh and Bill make some of the best lagers we’ve ever had, and it was a lot of fun to learn from Ashleigh, who is a true master of this style of beer, during the brew day. To make DIFFERENT STROKES, we cooked up a pilsner base using both Tettnang (GR) and Nelson Sauvin (NZ) for bittering and whirlpool additions. We then split the batch between two different fermenters, both of which were inoculated with Bierstadt’s unique lager yeast from Germany. One fermenter was left untouched, while the other received a hefty dose of Nelson Sauvin hops. Each 4pack will have 2 of each version, because “the world don’t move to the beat of just one drum! What might be right for you, might not be right for some!”

Malt: Pilsner, a tiny bit of flaked wheat and flaked oats (thanks for allowing it, Ashleigh!)
Hops: Tettnang (GR), Nelson Sauvin (NZ)
ABV: 6.1%
Price: $6/can (in-house or to-go, $18/4pack (to-go only)

FRIENDLY FIRE:
First brewed with our homies, Call to Arms, for our ‘grand’ opening we re-imagined this beer for a re-release in cans with the same spirit the original beer was brewed with: the expression of friendly, fun, pure hop juice. We switched up the malt as well as the hop profiles and additions to better reflect our current work, so expect biiig waves of hoppy, tropical goodness on this one!

Malt: Pilsner, flaked wheat, flaked oats
Hops: Apollo (USA), Galaxy (AUS), Mosaic (USA), Moutere (NZ), Summer (AUS)
ABV: 7%
price: $7/Can (in-house or to-go, $20/4pack (to-go only)

4pm – 10pm | Furore New England Style Oenobeer @ Fiction Beer Company – 7101 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO

What: We collaborated with Liberati Osteria & Oenobeers to create what may be the first New England Style Oenobeer. Combining Fiction’s passion for New England Style IPAs with Liberati’s dedication to wine grapes we have created Furore (pronounce this like Alex Liberati would https://bit.ly/2Z4tu3E ).

Furore, a 13% ABV 74 IBU IPA made with 49% Malbec grapes and over 5lbs per bbl of hops specially blended by the brewers to accentuate the characteristics of the Malbec grape.

Belma, Pekko, Callista and Mosaic hops lend jammy notes of ripe strawberry, red candy, and luxardo cherries. The soft mouthfeel is carried by a perceived dryness that makes the beer highly drinkable.

Just in time for the Craft Brewers Conference, Furore will be available on draft Tuesday April 9th at Liberati Osteria & Oenobeers, located at 2403 Champa St and at Fiction Beer Company

4pm – 11pm | Toppling Goliath Tap Takeover @ Lowdown Brewery + Kitchen – 800 Lincoln St. Denver, CO

To kick off the season, we will be releasing Purple Slush, Blue Slush, Raspberry Limeade Slush, Double Cherry Limeade Slush, Slusholada, Slusharita, and Real Dill Slush.

Boat Drinks is our new Milkshake Sour IPA series. Since the weather is getting nicer, we’ve decided to take our Sour IPA game in a new direction inspired by classic Tiki cocktails. This new series of beers showcases tropical fruits and spices, alongside a juicy and tart New England Style IPA base beer. Deck Shoes is our first release in the series, recreating the classic Mai Tai with puréed mandarin oranges and pineapples, toasted coconut, and a touch of pureed sweet cherries.”
