Beer and Music. Let’s have a good time.
February while the most diminutive in comparison to the other 12 months, always seems to drag on the longest. It could be attributed to the inconsistent weather shifts, the lows that follow Valentine’s day or just the realization that those …
These past few months, I’ve been curiously enamored with the funk genre. I’m not quite sure what sparked this love-affair, yet I speculate it has something to do with my recent stay at a place called the “Mojo Inn” (a charming, modern hostel with a brilliant Motown-inspired lobby playlist), or perhaps seeing & hearing a good friend and his 9-piece funk band play live shows (s/o http://www.grampsthevamp.com).
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we have most likely been bombarded—(un)willingly—with daily reminders of Friday’s forecast (red roses, pink hearts, chocolate, all (or none) of the above, etc.).
But what about love songs? More often than not, these songs …

It’s been rumored for a while now, but the announcement is finally out of Nickel Creek Reuniting. Chris Thile, Sara Watkins and brother Sean Watkins, are reuniting for the first time since they split in 2007. Trio not only announced that they’ll be kicking off their tour at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium with a 2 night engagement on April 18-19 (tickets go on sale Feb 7), but they’ve also teased a new song from their upcoming album.
This morning, three of the summer’s largest music festivals released their initial lineups. Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, AL, Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE and The Governor’s Ball in New York NY all released their star-studded lineups. Coachella released their lineup last week and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest posted theirs yesterday!
We’ve all had those mornings where we’ve crawled out of bed cursing the day we allow another drop of alcohol to poison our lips. Those days are usually wrought with lying around in bed, double digit cups of coffee, Paula Dean levels of lard laden food and a mix of chill but purposeful tunes to inspire and wrench us out of the drudgery. Here is a hangover playlist of beautifully laid back songs for just those occasions. So kick back, take a deep breath and begin to recoup from New Years, Vail Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines or just that random bender you had this past weekend
Are you sick of “best of” lists yet? We sure hope not. We gathered together several PD contributors to get their thoughts on the 5 best songs they heard in 2013, and we even put it all in a convenient playlist. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
As children, we’d pull out all the stops when it came to the potential of a snow day. I often think back to countless nights I spent donning pj’s that had been flipped inside out huddled around the window scoping out those first flakes as they caught the glimmer of the street light outside of my house. Because seeing those flittering white flecks meant the sure possibility that we’d be granted a much needed reprieve from school the next day. What followed often resulted in a tribal dance channeled directly to the snow gods to bring the proverbial frozen rain. This playlist of snow songs is devoted to the inner child in us in hopes of a safe and snowy December.
Yo bro you hittin that gondi for some gnar pow pow? Ok seriously never talk like that… ever please. But post Thanksgiving in Colorado generally ushers in the official start of skiing and snowboarding season. So while you’re carving on the mountain, we created a list of tunes to help make your experience just a bit more epic. Just remember safety first!
Tis the season for greatest hits, star-packed movie soundtracks and strange collaborations! November was chalk full of all three – A Perfect Circle (via a greatest “hits” release) joins tunes from Inside Llewyn Davis and Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as …
We here at PorchDrinking are thankful for many things. But mostly we’re thankful that you have been along with us on this incredible journey for the past year and a half. For today’s PorchDrinking Playlist I decided to research as many songs about giving thanks and mostly having the words thanks and thank you in their title. Oh, and of course a little Charlie Brown and Adam Sandler were necessary. So have a wonderful holiday with your friends and family and we thank you for joining our family for the past several months!
Whether it’s a calming precursor to a night of slumber, a conjuring nostalgic link to past memories, or a toe tapping form of inspiration to pull someone out of sorrow, music can have a transformative effect on a person’s mood. Today’s playlist is devoted entirely toward songs that make you happy. These are the toe tappers, the frown upside downers and in some cases songs about being just gosh darn happy. Let me know if these have the same effect as they do to me!
My roommate Shane’s Birthday is this Friday. He’s turning 26 years old. Emphasis on old. Last year to commemorate his 25th we threw an 80’s party that goes down in the record books. This year we decided to progress …
October was a really fantastic month for new music. We’re bringing you the highlights in our new PorchDrinking Playlist—everything from Miley (hate on her all you want, but try to get Wrecking Ball out of your head) to new songs from Arcade Fire and The Avett Brothers. Also included are a couple tracks from the recently departed Lou Reed, one of the greatest musicians of arguably the greatest era.
Now that we have quite the list of beers to try out thanks to the fantastic team effort at GABF this past week, we need some tunes to pair with those tasty selections. This playlist combines new albums and new collaborations from the liked of Deltron with his follow-up album to the Deltron 3030 with Event II.
With the conclusion of the festival season this weekend with Austin City Limits, today’s playlist showcases many of the top act headliners with plenty of new up-and-coming bands that will definitely be hitting the airwaves soon. Enjoy
OMG we’re back again (note Backstreet Boys reference here). Alas we have returned with a follow-up installment of Songs White People Loves. In case you missed last year’s pleated slacks, Super Cuts inspired, scones scarfing, air guitar fest, click here.
In honor of this week’s upcoming Brew at the Zoo, I decided to compile a playlist of songs relating to zoo animals. Our top three songs obviously featured Lions, Tigers and Bears but from there on we’ve got everything from Crocodile Rock to bands like Elephant Revival.
One of the most amazing things I’ve experienced while embarking on this PorchDrinking project, has been the tremendous people I’ve encountered along the way. Whether it be brewers, craft beer fans, fellow bloggers, or staff writers who have become great …
