Christmas time is a time of year filled with tradition, from holiday parties, to caroling, to big, hearty, meals filled with comfort food. For many families, traditions also include baking all the cookies. All these cookies are given out during cookie exchanges, to the mail carriers, to uncles, aunts and cousins, and certainly, they will also end up in gifts to you from others as well. With all these cookies, it doesn’t take long before you are sick of all that sugar. That’s when it’s time to break open some less-than-obvious beer pairings to make those cookies seem new again.
As a kid, you were always told, “No dessert until you finish your dinner.” If you were like me, you’d push around your broccoli and then wait for the dog to walk by, or hide the leafy greens under a rug as you eyed the chocolate cake sitting on the table.
But, now you are an adult. You get to decide if you want to finish your plate of steamed vegetables. And even better, you can have cookies and ice cream for breakfast if you choose. Even better, if you want to have beer for dessert, you could totally do that too!
It’s that time of year again for Christmas Cookie and Beer Pairings! Our first edition of this pairing theme kicked off last year as you may remember, and I was very excited to bring it back for a second time this year. I was torn between sticking to all American brews for this year’s edition or if I should add some of those fantastic Belgian Christmas Ales in the mix, but then decided that this year’s version should be strictly All-American. There were definitely some great options for pairing. Also, just like last year, I did some homemade cookies and some store-bought for those of you that like to bake and for those of you that would prefer not to. Now let’s get on to the goods!
This is one of my favorite times of year. Especially because I have an excuse to bake up a storm of Christmas cookies and sweets. So why not punch up your treats with some Christmas Cookie and Beer pairings? Who needs Christmas whiskey when you have winter beers? But don’t worry, if you aren’t a big baker or candy maker, there are a couple of store bought options for you to pair that beer with as well.
Hopefully the only hearts that get broken this Valentine’s Day are these cookie hearts when you take a big bite out of them. For this holiday edition of Cooking with Beer, I’ve teamed up with Epic Brewing Company to showcase their newest brew to cans, Lil’ Brainless Raspberries. This sweet treat is easy drinking with the perfect amount of raspberry punch. This flavor profile is why it was chosen to create the raspberry filling for the lemon shortbread cookies. Not to mention the pretty in pink cans were extremely hard to resist. If you’re trying to impress your crush or you’re just really into cookies, bake a batch of these Lil’ Raspberry Cookies. If you’re really trying to win extra brownie points, get an extra sixer of Lil’ Brainless Raspberries to go along with them. Happy Valentine’s Day, lovers!
