Ultimate 6er | Fruit Beer SaladJuly 10, 2019 | Lora Kormos
It’s a weird observation, but summer is one of the best smelling seasons. Burgers on the grill, the saltwater from the ocean, flowers in bloom and the sweet, decadent fruit tray being passed around at the summer picnic. The fruit salad is one of the most underrated, but highly appreciated item at every summer party. There’s nothing better than taking a bite into a slice of watermelon on a 90-degree, humid day. And in the summer months, fruit is the second-most refreshing summer snack (after beer, of course). So, why not have some fruit beer salad?
While fruit beers are present all year round by a lot of breweries, you can’t get enough of their endless refreshment during the sweltering months. They give you an opportunity to deviate from your traditional style to enjoy a fruity, thirst-quenching beverage. Bearing that in mind, this Ultimate 6er focuses on fruit forward beers that are perfect for all summer activities.

The beer scene in Philadelphia is alive and thriving. Almost every neighborhood has a brewery, along with its suburbs. Nestled in the suburbs, about an hour outside of Philadelphia, lays West Chester. Known for its historical sites, for being the home of the QVC Studio, and a variety of restaurants, shops and parks, this quaint Pennsylvania town is worth a visit.
Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. | Femme Brutale Brut IPAApril 2, 2019 | Lora Kormos
Strong as an ox.
Solid as a rock.
These phrases perfectly describe an up-and-coming brewery, Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. It’s situated in Hawley, PA, close to the third largest lake man-made lake in Pennsylvania; follow the coast and its 52 miles of shoreline will lead you to some fantastic beer. Lake Wallenpaupack is a major recreational destination in the Pocono Mountain region. However, it was lacking a place that brewed some solid brews. Siblings Becky and Christopher Ryman noticed the need for a brewery around the lake and decided to get to work on offering the area something unique.
Hudson Valley Brewery | BloomJanuary 15, 2019 | Lora Kormos
Just north of the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, the Hudson Valley in New York has long inspired artists and writers, like Norman Rockwell, with its Victorian homes, charming villages and amazing cuisine. The valley is full of outdoor activities like boating, kayaking and the opportunity to summit some pretty intense mountains; a section of the Appalachian Trail even runs through the area. So, it should come as no surprise that the Hudson Valley is becoming a hot spot for breweries. In fact, there are more than 50 breweries and counting within the region.
Hudson Valley Brewery is located in Beacon, NY. Situated just off the main street in a 1960s factory building, Hudson Valley Brewery opened their doors in 2017 and have already made quite a name for themselves—Hop Culture Magazine named them Best New Brewery of 2017.

Good old Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love. Home to the Philly cheese steak, the current Super Bowl champions, the Liberty Bell, soft pretzels and a heaping selection of fantastic beers. One could spend a full day traveling to all the breweries in the Philadelphia area and not even come close to trying them all. Trust me, I’ve tried and failed.

I didn’t think I was going to make it. I barely shoveled my way out of this winter. Every time I thought it was finally over, Mother Nature proved me wrong. We suffered from freezing weather and snowstorms almost daily. Well, it is finally here and hopefully I didn’t jinx it. It’s summertime and the living’s easy.
Tree House Brewing Company | Lights OnApril 2, 2018 | Lora Kormos
“Shipping up to Boston!” is a phrase that was uttered more times than I dared to count during my most recent trip — an overnight stay in the famed New England coastal city. It was St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and I snagged two tickets to see Dropkick Murphys perform the first night of their hometown holiday show at the House of Blues in Boston. The idea of expanding our trip to include lobster rolls, “chowdah” and amazing beer was too sweet to pass up, and drinking Lights On from Tree House helped put this trip over the top.
SingleCut Beersmiths | Jenny SaidMarch 6, 2018 | Lora Kormos
There’s so many age old questions in life. What came first—the chicken or the egg? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? Who was in the kitchen with Dinah? And perhaps the most important, what was it that Jenny Said?
While pondering some of life’s biggest questions, I was busy browsing the shelves of my local grocery store trying to decide on a beer for this showcase. As I rounded the corner, several 16oz. cans caught my eye. Jenny Said, an imperial IPA from SingleCut Beersmiths was the way to go. Read More

2018 is finally upon us! For my New Year’s resolution, I am determined to check out more up and coming breweries and continue to sample new beers that I have not yet had. With it being only a few days into 2018, I’m already hard at work on my resolution. On a recent trip to New Jersey, I noticed there was a brewery only a few minutes away from my hotel. Since there’s nothing better than spending a chilly Saturday afternoon warming up with some tasty beers, I started on my way to Cypress Brewing Company. Read More

Ultimate 6er | Witches BrewOctober 25, 2017 | Lora Kormos
‘Tis the season for Halloween haunts and deliciously tasty beers! Halloween is just around the corner and I could barely contain my excitement. I’ve been busy prepping all month long for my favorite holiday by visiting pumpkin patches, putting out spooky decorations, deciding on the perfect costume and watching more horror films than I could count.
I love watching any horror film I can find. Zombies, clowns and slow-moving psycho maniacs, I can’t get enough of them. But since witching hour is nearly upon us, we have to honor some truly classic “black magic” women.
If you are gearing up for an evening of some bewitching entertainment, here are six beers to pair with some witches that graced us with their presence. Read More

While I was traveling throughout New England this summer, it made me realize one thing – I love it there. Somehow everything within those upper states – their seafood, their mountains and especially their beer – is picturesque and fantastic. Because of this, it should come as no surprise that when it comes to brewing beer, New England breweries don’t mess around.
Equilibrium Brewery | Fractal Citra/Galaxy IPAAugust 3, 2017 | Lora Kormos
Nestled in Hudson Valley, NY, lays a new brewery that has been cranking out some fantastic, flavorful and experimental beers. Founded by two MIT engineering graduates who shared a passion for homebrewing, Equilibrium Brewery began distributing their delicious beverages in the latter half of 2016. They follow the belief that beer can be better when scientific principles are followed that focus on balancing drinkability with the flavor. The beers they are brewing are inviting, just waiting for you to take the next sip. They’ve been able to channel their scientific backgrounds and love of craft beer and create something worth praising.

Some people plan their vacations around tropical beaches, ancient ruins or exotic cities. While all of the above are fantastic options, I decided to plan my vacation this year around hiking and beer. This led me to the shocking realization that despite living in Pennsylvania, I’ve never traveled further north than Boston. How could that be? Read More
Ultimate 6er | Feeling Nostalgic About Pop-Punk MusicApril 26, 2017 | Lora Kormos
I recently attended 2 sold out nights of New Found Glory’s 20 years of pop-punk anniversary tour in Philadelphia. I was feeling a little nostalgic to think this band has been around for 20 years now. They had performed during the first concert I ever went to. Completely unsure of what to expect at my first concert, I stood in a mosh pit with platform sandals on. Years later, I learned not to wear that same footwear attire to a concert ever again. Read More

We all know that the craft beer trend is booming, but who would have guessed it was so hopping in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania? Lehigh Valley recently played host to their 4th annual Lehigh Valley Beer Week in February. Events included beer and brunch with specialty firkins, a beer can derby, a 5k race, tap takeovers, Mario Kart tournament and the Krewe de Brew Mardi Crawl, along with tons of beer specials at both local breweries and bars. 10 Dessert Beers You Should Be Drinking After Each MealFebruary 9, 2017 | Lora Kormos
As a kid, you were always told, “No dessert until you finish your dinner.” If you were like me, you’d push around your broccoli and then wait for the dog to walk by, or hide the leafy greens under a rug as you eyed the chocolate cake sitting on the table.
But, now you are an adult. You get to decide if you want to finish your plate of steamed vegetables. And even better, you can have cookies and ice cream for breakfast if you choose. Even better, if you want to have beer for dessert, you could totally do that too!
Søle Artisan Ales | Pineapple SmooshJanuary 16, 2017 | Lora Kormos 1
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA
ABV: 7.80% | IBU: 35
I glanced at my phone, bleary-eyed to see a time of 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Unlike my typical weekend morning, I found myself standing outside of the Susquehanna Brewing Company building in a long line, waiting for the latest can release from their contract brewer, Søle Artisan Ales. The release was being held at noon and I had several long hours ahead of me for my first ever specialty release. Bundled up in layers upon layers of clothing and blankets, I anxiously waited in the cold Pennsylvania weather to get my gloved hands on a case of Pineapple Smoosh, one of the latest milkshake style beers.
