Chances are, if you have been to a brewery before, you have been on a brewery tour. It’s an easy way to get the consumer closer to a brewery’s brand, process, and beer. While some offer hands-on exercises, unlimited samples, and specialized experiences, your typical, run-of-the-mill brewery tour is no longer memorable. Beer drinkers are much more educated and knowledgeable of the brewing process and the craft beer industry as a whole than they were 5 or 10 years ago. Sniffing hop pellets and looking at stainless steel fermenters can get dull after a while.
To stand out in today’s brewery tour landscape, you really have to offer something that goes beyond the status quo and provides a deeper connection to the brewery you’re visiting. Many national and regional breweries have realized that their brewery tour can help extend the beer drinker’s experience with them, which could help influence subsequent purchasing decisions at retail locations and bars. Offering something different and memorable is a great way to standout from the fray of local colleagues and regional competitors. Things like specialized tours and immersive tasting experiences are just a few ways that breweries have revamped their tours to better appeal to today’s beer drinking clientele.
The more time I spend on Twitter, the more I think I need therapy. Luckily, I got to hide in the relative safety of my beer feed. There aren’t any political posts in there. Wait… What’s that? No… no, please don’t! I’ll do anything. Just don’t retweet that… I’ll be in the corner in the fetal position, and this is The Weekly Buzz.

Enjoy thrillers and have already binged-watched Season 1 of Stranger Things on Netflix? Perhaps you’ve turned to HBO’s The Night Of! This eight-episode crime drama miniseries, set in New York City, is an emotional whirlwind composed of different players seeking to reconstruct the fateful night of Andrea Cornish’s murder. If you haven’t seen this show, don’t fret! This Ultimate 6er doesn’t contain any spoilers, but it will introduce you to six of the main characters, each of whom have their own motivations in uncovering the truth to what happened on The Night Of. All six of these beers come from breweries within NYC’s five boroughs, where the noir-style storyline takes place. However, be forewarned – drinking a beer while watching this masterful show may result in suspense-induced drink spillage!
When it comes to ingestion, there are no two substances I love more together than craft beer and red meat. This is the sole reason I am known by the servers at Bill’s Burger in the Meatpacking District on a first name basis. Whenever I am within walking distance of the joint, my feet involuntarily turn and pace straight towards the front door, stopping only by the contentment of being seated at a high top table, adorned with it’s infamous red and white checked table cloth atop.
ABV – 9.1%
IBU – 103
Upon cracking the top of this slender, green can, the snappy scent wafts up to warn the drinker: this is no lager. The first taste is a bit of a shock – though the carbonation is fairly mild – and this beer lets you know precisely what 103 IBU means. However, once a few more sips pass over your palate, Sixpoint Brewery Resin‘s zesty bitter grapefruit juice flavor begins to shine through. This is the beer I buy to take to a party, and upon arriving, proceed to hide it in the back of the fridge so I’m not forced to share.
