MadTree Brewing | Thundersnow

MadTree Brewing | Thundersnow

By definition, Thundersnow, also known as a winter thunderstorm or a thundersnowstorm, is an unusual kind of thunderstorm with snow falling as the primary precipitation instead of rain.

I’ve never witnessed Thundersnow in my area but I have witnessed the frenzy of people excited about the release of MadTree Brewing’s Thundersnow.

While we’ve all seen hype over a beer release, this is a little different than what you are probably thinking. The hype over this beer has nothing to do with rarity.

Thundersnow is MadTree’s winter release so you can’t get it year-round, but they make more than enough to ensure there’s some on shelves throughout the cold months. And people buy it up. They rush out the week it’s released and drink it regularly until winter is gone.

I even know quite a few people that stock up with the hope of drinking it throughout the summer when it’s not on shelves. But most fall short and drink through their supply by early summer.

ABV: 8.5%

So What Makes Thundersnow A Cincinnati Favorite?

Thundersnow is a spiced scotch ale. They’ve added nutmeg, ginger, vanilla beans and cinnamon to give this beer a great winter feel. I’m a big fan of scotch ales so I approve of everything they are doing with this one.

You’ll get a nice malty sweetness from Thundersnow that makes it as easy drinking beer but be warned, it is 8.5% ABV.

That ABV isn’t a bad thing as you can’t deny the need for a warming beer during the cold months of the year and it definitely gets cold here.

This beer transcends many different types of beer drinkers. I know lager lovers that enjoy this beer just as much as stout drinkers. It’s enjoyed by craft beer snobs just as often as the average beer drinker. That is why it’s become such a popular choice for beer drinkers in Cincinnati.

MadTree Brewing’s Thundersnow has captivated many in the Cincinnati beer market and luckily it isn’t as rare as lightning during a snowstorm.
