About- Karen Lai
We would like to wish our staff writer Karen Lai a very special congratulations on her engagement last night. Karen started with PorchDrinking when we first formed and is considered Tristan’s faux-sister. Earlier this year she wrote about cooking Chocolate Pretzel Beer Toffee with Rivertown Brewing’s Hop Bomber Pale Ale. Here’s that post and once again a very special congratulations to Karen and Sam!
One of the reasons I love music is because it has the power to take you back to a specific time or place, just with a few chords and notes. This fall playlist is a collection of songs, new and old, that remind me of fall for some reason or another. For example: Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity” will always remind me of walking to class in the fall of my freshman year at Miami University, listening to her album on my first generation iPod (RIP). Chris Brown’s “Don’t Wake Me Up” on the other hand, is a song that I kind of hate myself for loving, but I still blast it whenever it comes on the radio.
It’s official: summer is winding down. People are starting to head back to school, pools will close soon, and retailers are putting their summer styles on clearance. It’s time to soak up the last you can of summer—including seasonal beers!

A few weeks ago, some friends and I were at Whole Foods picking up some of their amazing guacamole (seriously, best grocery store guac EVER), and decided to get some drinks as well. None of us are particularly knowledgeable about …
ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 60
Okay, here’s the thing: I’m not exactly what you would call a “beer expert.” I couldn’t tell you the difference between an IPA and an APA, and I don’t actually know what IBU’s are—I just googled that number. That being said, I do enjoy beer and I really enjoy my pal Tristan—so when he asked me if I wanted to participate in the PorchDrinking website, of course, I had to say yes (after first checking to make sure he was serious).
