It has been a rough twenty four hours for the craft beer industry, as droves of national brewers have begun voicing their responses to Wicked Weed Brewing’s acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev. The first and perhaps most high profile response came from Jester King Brewing’s Jeffrey Stuffings who shared a heartfelt, but definitive statement on the Austin brewery’s policy toward future collaborations and sales of Wicked Weed products.
Friday the 13th, a superstition as old as time. At PorchDrinking, we don’t understand how a Friday could get such a bad rap. Maybe we can replace Friday the 13 with Monday the 13. Now that’s something to be scared of. Grab a drink, take a seat. This is What We’re Drinking.
Craft beer is all about new experiences. The craft beer industry has taken a goods / commodities based enterprise and evolved it into an experience based business model. This is evident in brewery hosted events, taprooms/bier gardens and beers unbound by categories. This influence has extended past the brewers and imbibers to the retailers who are dreaming up new and innovative ideas to draw their customers into the door and encourage them to return many times thereafter.
If you love serious sour and funk, be warned: you won’t want to leave Wicked Weed Brewing’s Funkatorium in Asheville, North Carolina. You’ll wonder if they’d notice if you hid among the barrels and spent the night. At 5’4”, this thought seriously went through my head.
