Perrin Brewing Co. Releases New IPA Inspired by Now-Canceled “Storm Area 51”

September 17, 2019 |

Brewing new beers to celebrate a local event or festival is not unusual in the craft brewing community. Michigan-based Perrin Brewing Company took that idea and flipped it on its head with their latest IPA: Storming The Gates Area 51 Experimental New England style IPA. Brewed in celebration of their 7th anniversary party, the new NE-style IPA is brewed to celebrate (or mourn) the now-canceled Storm Area 51 event that was supposed to take place on September 20, 2019. While that viral event is now no-more due to a myriad of practical and human safety issues, the IPA remains and has had many Michigan beer fans storming the gates of the brewpub this past week.

CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective Continues to Disrupt

July 9, 2019 |

In 2015, the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective was born out of Oskar Blues Holding Company in what began as a financial partnership with Fireman Capital Partners, a Boston area private equity firm. The Collective brought together a group of like-minded brewers who still maintain their independence under the Brewers Association’s definition of a small and independent brewery, but have also become part of a unified entity that has allowed for greater collaboration of ideas, resources and distribution networks. Just two months after the formation of CANarchy, Oskar Blues brought Michigan’s Perrin Brewing Company to the fold and have since added four others.

What We’re Drinking | November 30, 2018

November 30, 2018 |

The air is finally chilly where I live in Florida, so we finally feel the holiday spirit minus the snow. Around this time, we tend to have a lot on our plate, even after we think there’s no way to fill up our plate more than we did on Thanksgiving. There is an endless amount of activities to enjoy coming up, plus tons of beer options to choose from while we are in the prime of the season. My best advice is to take it slow to enjoy every moment. Many craft beer drinkers would agree when I say the best way to embrace the moment is with a great brew by your side. This week, the PorchDrinkers have a stellar lineup to inspire the joy a craft can conjure.

Perrin Brewing Co. | Malted Milk Ball Imperial Porter

October 27, 2017 |

As a kid, I absolutely loved Whoppers. I’d beg my parents to let me get them every chance I could, and if they gave in, I’d have a small box gone in about 10 minutes. I can still remember the way they melt in your mouth, and am now pretty sure I’m going to the store to get a box. Wait. It turns out, there’s something even better.

Drinking a beer while sitting on a bar stool is an image that many people have in their heads when they envision the craft beer scene. Now, times are changing. The craft beer boom has changed people’s perceptions towards beer in general, and on a more finite level—what you can do when you’re drinking one.

Ultimate 6er | HBO’s Westworld Beer Pairings

November 30, 2016 |

Various amazing writers at PorchDrinking have covered television hits in Ultimate 6ers for years, including Parks & Recreation (Parts I & II), The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and American Idol (just kidding, we have standards). With these past Ultimate 6ers in mind, I just had to create a new one for my current pop culture love affair: HBO’s new hit Westworld.

westworld3

In case you don’t know, Westworld blends Grand Theft Auto with Jurassic Park in an old western setting. Westworld is an amusement park where guests pay to be immersed in a realistic 1800s “Old West” environment. With towns, farms, rivers, deserts, and more, guests are able to choose their own adventures: from tracking down outlaws to becoming an outlaw or taking advantage of the local bordello’s enticing attractions. Guests are even able to kill the park’s lifelike androids, also known as Hosts.
