Great Lakes Brewing Co. | Crushworthy Lo-Cal Citrus Wheat Ale
April 7, 2021 | Kevin RisnerReceiving good news can be a thrill, but receiving good beer news is even better! Months ago, when Great Lakes Brewing Co. (GLBC) in Cleveland, OH introduced their beer lineup for 2021, a newcomer to the ranks appeared on their list. I saw the style, and grew excited at this new option for a new year. Soon after that, we received fresh can art and more tantalizing details about this beer. Now, Crushworthy Lo-Cal Citrus Wheat, one of GLBC’s next offerings, has finally arrived right on target, a year-round ale for those thirsty for something different.

The mere utterance of Harlem likely evokes a myriad of imagery; it’s a section of New York City that’s oozing with history. The name and label artwork adorning a bottle of Harlem Brewing Company Renaissance Wit speaks to that wealth of history – beer history, music history, cultural history, and everything in between. But, when reviewing a beer, one must refrain from being swayed by the story attached to a beer or brewery. Instead, the beer must be judged on its own merits, and that is what this showcase aims to do. Nevertheless, there’s no reason history and culture can’t be included in the discussion. Craft has always been more than just about beer, and this wheat beer personifies that concept.
Wiley Roots Brewing Company | Super 77 Wheat
October 7, 2016 | David ThompsonABV: 4.7% | IBU: 12
Winning a medal at GABF is a big deal, and for a craft brewer it could be validation of years of work and passion. Three years ago, it was Kyle Carbaugh, the self described “Grand Poobah” at the then GABF rookie Wiley Roots Brewing Company who felt that validation when their Super 77 Wheat took home the Bronze Medal.
