Voodoo Brewing | Hazy Vibes IPA
For the last six years, Voodoo Brewing Co.’s Hazy Vibes New England-style IPA has only been available as a spontaneous release. Well, we come bearing good news! The famous Meadville, Pennsylvania, brewery has plans to add Good Vibes’ cloudy counterpart as a more regular offering to its lineup. Voodoo has distributors in more than a dozen states, so check out the brewery’s Find Our Beer page to see where you might be able to find Hazy Vibes soon!
Voodoo
Opening its Meadville location in 2005, Voodoo Brewing is considered an OG in the craft space. Its versatile portfolio and expertise in countless beer styles has set the brewery up for huge amounts of success over the years. Voodoo’s team now operates facilities in over 20 states, and are continuing to expand their brand and distribution across the U.S.
Voodoo’s worldwide recognition and accolades continue to gain traction. So when news broke that one of their more sporadic releases would be thrown into a more regular rotation, we knew we had to let people know.
Hazy Vibes
Originally brewed and released for Voodoo’s inaugural Good Vibes Beer Fest in 2018, the team took their beloved Good Vibes IPA and gave it the New England IPA treatment. Hopped five times in the kettle and double dry hopped to amp up those dank, fruity notes, Hazy Vibes is brewed with huge amounts of Australian Galaxy, U.S. Amarillo and Voodoo’s hand-selected Mosaic from Yakima Chief Hops.
Until now, the Voodoo team has brewed Hazy Vibes only once a year since its original release at Good Vibes. Although Voodoo announced the 2024 return of Hazy Vibes at the beginning of August on social media, the teams at each local Voodoo Brewing Co. pub will announce the specific availability of cans and draft at their location, so be sure to follow your nearest brewpub online.
Review
Canning date: July 30, 2024.
Noticeable saturation immediately greets us on the pour. If you’ve ever had canned mango nectar juice, it’s got a similar coloration; deep, golden yellow hues.
The nose comes on sweet, malty and dank. Notes of overripe mango and pithy grapefruit hit hard immediately. After a few minutes, the initially soft bitterness comes to the forefront, accompanied by undertones of malted grain.
When diving into the palate, there’s a clear influence from Good Vibes, with the profile being a sort of hybrid between East and West coast styles. While there’s a juicy richness to the flavors, right there to balance it out is more of a terpene-fueled aggression to both contrast and add some residual bitterness.
This is definitely a full-bodied IPA. While bordering on syrupy, there’s a good carbonation to cut the weight. Additionally, while drinking only at 7%, there’s a distinct booziness to this one that actually works well with the beer’s overall character.
Respect the Haze
In a market oversaturated with New England-Style IPAs, Hazy Vibes stands out from the crowd. It’s aromatic in its dankness. Sweet in its abundance of fruit and present malt character. Full-bodied but yet still approachable. In short, it’s got all the right vibes.
Admittedly it is difficult to follow in the footsteps of such a well-known classic like Voodoo’s Good Vibes. But in a uniquely nuanced approach to the most popular craft beer style in the U.S., Hazy Vibes is a success story. Keep an eye on your local watering hole and on social media, because soon this hazy gem will be more accessible than ever before. #goodvibesonly
